In order to add an external hard drive to increase storage for my Scientific Atlanta 8300 hd pvr I need an SATA drive.
The cable box has an SATA connector(data only, no power connector) on the back. Getting the drive and the connector are easy. The problem is how to power the drive. All the external hard drive enclosures only have usb or firewire outputs and they need a standard connector from a pc power supply to power the drive..
The only thing I could think of was getting a power supply hooked up next to the cable box and using the sata power cable from it to the drive and then hooking the drive up to the cable box.
This seems pretty unsightly, having a power supply sitting near my cable box.
Does anyone have any idea how else it could be done or know of an external enclosure that would meet my needs?
