My friend has this generic case and I want it :) But He won't give it to me :(... won't even sell it. And worse we can't figure out where he got it. (don't ask, we just can't figure it out.. long story). Anyways heres a pic of it, sorry for crappy quality but all he's got is a chincy webcam.

Picture

the faceplate covers are rounded to keep the bezel flowing smoothly. The X shape design on the side can be cut out to make some awesome looking case mods. It holds a FULL-SIZE ATX mobo and has a vertically mounting powersupply (its a close clearance under a chrome orb :). If anyone can tell me a brandname/manufacturer or show me where I can buy one. I'd greatly appreciate it.

I think mluser's is the actual one. That Modded case looks similar but isn't it :)

I have seen this case modded a LOT. You'll find about 100 of them on Virtual Hideout's gallery. I have seen them locally a couple times but directron is the only place that I can think of that I have seen it online.

That case is the apex supercase mid tower. I pick those up at computer shows all the time. Excellent case, plenty of room to work in. I would recommend it to everyone.

the one your friend has is the psi 917-c. you might want to get the 917-k, which has 4 5.25" bays and a horizontal psu, which is much better in my opinion. a local store (to me) sells the 917-k for $33 /w a 300W psu. the psi 917-k on their site.

Excellent case?!?!
In my opinion it is a POS. I bought 3 of those for systems that I built, paid $60 for all three brand new. They were nothing but headaches and continue to cause me problems to this date.

EDIT: If you want "plenty of room to work", this is not the case...get a full tower.

You can do some Paint options to the sides. Its the same company that supplys CompUSA with there generics. From owning its cousin its not bad as far as the case goes but the 300watt PSU is not going to win any awards. Can you say ....voltage lottery;).

i found the case to be ok for a cheap case with desent airflow but the powersupply is crap.

Cheap generic cases like that scare me...why do you think its $33 or whatever.. those PS'S are junk, if it says its a 300w its probably alot lower, and they can't be of any quality..if you are planning on modding and placing extra fans ie: 120mm sunons or something like that, that means you are probably into oc'ing.. so why would you trust your rig to run at its full potential with a crappy PS??

i have this case and it's great if you don't have a lot of stuff, and true it does not have a lot of room to work with, but it's a good starter case, I bought it about a year and half a ago and just upgraded to a full tower. if you live in the SF bay area there is a vendor there that sell them for under $30 at the robert austin shows go to www.robertaustin.com for the locations and dates

I have had "cheap" cases from Apex for 3 years and everyone of them is still working just fine. The "cheap" PS in my Full tower runs a SCSI CDR, a 12x DVD, a 32X CDrom, 4 hard drives, PIII, and about 12 fans. Not bad for a "cheap" case ($65 shipped)
