Im going to buy a new desktop and a notebook in the next few months. I need the notebook for when i visit my dad. My question is, is the company Falcon Northwest a good notebook company? I want it to look cool and play new games on high settings. here is what i came up with its a little expensive but i like the custom colors. http://www.falcon-nw.com/config/build.asp">The computer im thinking of.</a>

First of all, the link is dead.
Second, if this is the same company I'm thinking of, Falcon makes some kick @$$ high performance desktops. I don't know how their laptops are for the performance/$ ratio, but I'd be willing to bed they're good quality. Give me a price range and what features you want and I'm sure we can find something that meets your needs. GL &amp; welcome to AT!

First off sorry about the dead link. The price isnt too important but what i want is a totally unique look that not many people will have i also want to be able to play games like HL2 on high settings and i want the company i order from to be good wit customer service. I was thinking about alienware but i have heard some bad things about there customer service. That is one of the two reasons i am looking at falcon nw. The other is they have the custom colors and i kinda liked that. One more thing is that it cant be bulky like a desktop replacement. Any other good dealers you can refer would be great too. I hope this link isnt dead too. Falcon Northwest Fragbooks.

Looking at their site any of those systems would be good for your uses. IMO, they're dumb for using P4 notebooks as their gaming systems. The A64's are much better at gaming and use a lot less power than their P4 counterparts. Regardless, now it comes down to your preference: thin &amp; light or big &amp; powerful.
Personally I would choose between their Fragbook TL or the DR 6800. The DR just isn't worth the extra money &amp; sacrificing mobility. If you want a mobile gaming notebook, the TL is the way to go. The Pentium-M processor is awesome, keeping up very well in games. The ATI 9700 will do, but not the best if you're paying top dollar for a laptop. However, getting anything higher than a 9700 in a thin &amp; light is pretty much impossible. If size doesn't matter, go with the DR 6800. You get all of the newest features and thus will get the most out of your laptop for the longest period of time. DDR2, RAID, GeForce GO 6800: awesome stuff. However, pay attention to the batt life listed on all of them.
You might want to change the thread title to "Want Super Gaming Laptop" or something, that way people who are familiar with other gaming laptop companies will respond. However, IMO, Falcon looks like a good choice
BTW, get the warranty!

Dude you can get that laptop for a lot cheaper. Its just a rebadged Compal CL56, which you can customize for a lot cheaper on discountlaptops.com , powernotbooks.com , tigerdirect.com , mwave.com and so on. Unless you really need the flashy paint job, name and perfect pixel guarantee, save a few hundred and go with one of those other places

EDIT* actually while the Fragbook TL has the same specs as the Compal CL56 (Chembook 2056) the plugs on the back are different (according to the site pictures) so they may be different models. I noticed that the Fragbook has DVI out in the back and the Compal CL56 on discountlaptops only has analog.

I have a question about the Chembook 2056 i was configuring one and i chose a floppy drive and it added $50 to the computer. Is that high for just a floppy drive?

No, not usually. Personally, I would ditch the floppy unless you CONSTANTLY use floppies on the go. Just get a big flash drive for the same price ;)

the falcon does not have a dvi on it, the dvi port on the back is for the DR models not the TL models.

I have a voodoopc m:360 and its very nice. Its not any faster or anything but the customer support and aesthetics are great.

Check out these guys. Great reviews from resellerratings (albeit a bit old), and some great prices.

I'm looking at an:

A64 3400+
1 GB ram
9700 Pro
17" WSXGA 1680x1050
60 GB HD
DVD-RW/CDRW
6 in 1 media reader
4 built in speakers + sub
Integrated digital video camera
56k modem
gigabit ethernet lan
802.11b wireless

$1946

Damn great price. I just wish they had the same system as a 15" and with wireless g. I suppose I could just get a wireless g card... I know they have 15" WSXGA screens cause they have them for their centrino lappies.

The intel Centrino? based FragBook TL combines light weight with exceptional battery life to make this a truly portable powerhouse. Whether you are watching DVDs on an airplane or fragging your opponent at the local coffee house, the FragBook TL has the power to keep you running. The TL model is a compact 13 inch wide, 7 pound package with a 15 inch (diagonal) display
ha!

Here is the bestest, fastest beast you can get right now:

Sager 9860

I have it with 3.6 Prescott and 1 Gig RAM,

3DMark03=7250+
Aquamark3=43000

Factory settings, it can be o/c'd quite a bit.

Oh, much cheaper than AW, same notebook, or dtr.

Not really. When you can get a GF6800 in one, anyway. Maybe a small and light gaming laptop is an oxymoron, though. If they'd upgrade the 64 meg 9600 in the emachines to a GF6800, that would be a dream, imo.

Alienware and Falcon Northwest are the best gaming laptops in my opinion. Voodoo is good too, but they charge a LOT for their cases.

hey silverpig, have you seen any reviews on the Boldata laptops? They look sweet and are pretty good for their price, but I haven't seen any reviews on it...
