:| I have had it, I want a new mouse. I was given the Razor 2000 and I am tired of it. Stupid thing gets dirty to easy, I am using an awesome mousepad (Ratpad) stupid thing losses sensitivity, when I move to the left, it feels like the ball is NOT TURNING RIGHT. anyway I have decide that life is too short to go crazy at such a young age!

My point is, there are not alot of really good gaming mouses out there. The one I saw and I was hoping someone could tell me what they thought about it ie performance- Dpi-accuracy-date of birth anything!

Here are my choices Logitech dual optical (1800dpi)
Microsoft 3.0 (1500dpi)
Belkin N 40 I thinks? (prob like 4 dpi :)

Btw if anyone posts that I should use a wireless mouse I will hunt you down...... till I find you and strangle you with my Razor cord :)

While I have not used the logitech all I can say is that I have used the microsoft for over a year now and love it so much I don't feel the need to look at another. I recently got the 3.0 through MS and there is a big difference, very smooth and percise

My vote is for the MS but I'm biased

Um...You have the best mouse in the universe, you're just too damn lazy to clean it. By the way, those aren't 1800&1500 dpi mice, the numbers refer to scan rate. I doubt the "dpi" of those mice are anywhere in the neighborhood of your current mouse.

I still disagree, bty I made a mistake Dual Optical has 1600 dpi :) I am saying I saw a degradation in performance with the Razor even though it was clean. :) And I'm not to lazy to clean it the numbers by the way refer to dot- per -inch :)

If it's clean and you're still getting that (I know exactly what you're talking about), check to see if yours is an original metal roller version. There were quite a bit of problems with those and they went to plastic rollers later. They are back in business and may replace it no charge. If you don't want to go that route grab the Logitech Dual Optical, I've never used an optical I liked but at least it looks promising. You should grab one and tell us how it is. :)

Also, I looked all over Logitech's and MS's product sites and can't find a single mention of dpi. They always refer to pictures per second, I've not seen dpi mentioned in any of their official product specs.

Oh, I about forgot. One of the Boomslangs I had got that problem constantly. I found out why later on. I used to use the 3M Precision Mousing Surface, they wear out pretty quicky and I'd replace them often. I switched over to a FuncSurface 1030 pad and about same time took the mouse apart and cleaned the buildup off the rollers where they "hinge" and used a wee bit of WD-40 on them. Haven't had tracking problems since out of that mouse and it's been quite a while. I don't know if it was the rollers or the quick wearing pads, but I suspect a combination of both. How worn is the surface of your Ratpad?

:) thanks for the input, to answer your question, my Razor has the plastic rollers not the metal ones. If you wanna see the DPI artilces check

Toms hardware has an okay article but I can't really make my mind up :(
Maybe its the mouse pad, I think cpi is used also but in terms of resolution

Not worn at all, it's very easy to clean. I notice the build up to on those two elongated rollers. I think maybe it might not be cleaned well , but damn it hard to get in there. Maybe I should change the pad to something smoother, I know that the pad was rated very well better than the everglide?/

:) I'm gonna hang myself with my Razor ;)

I decided to get the dual optical. I think it's a better gaming mouse, and it's better than Microshaft stuff anyday :)

the world's best mouse, if u dont know it by now is W A C O M
i have the 9x12 tablet. swaaaweettest thing in the world.
wireless stylus and mouse, without batteries or cords or anything. it hovers over the magnetic field generated by the tablet. (i hope i dont get cancer from this ):Q

at 2540 lpi resolution, it the most accurate mouse since... since i knew n then bought a wacom tablet in 1997. before optical mouse was hailed all that, wacom was known with graphic artists all along.

at around 400.00 dollars, its designed to be all that! worth every penny. still confused? pm me :)

lpi= lines per inch.

i dont know how this relates to dpi. most likely, its the same...odd.

oh, to answer your inquiry, this mouse rocks in gaming!
the mouse has the same accuracy as the stylus of 2540lpi. 5 fully programmable buttoms, scroll wheel on the sides for the thumb (cause your fingers r occupied with the other five buttons already :) ) and off course, wireless.

Why did you have to show me that!! You know I'm a compulsive spender. Thanks to you 5 years worth of therapy down the drain!!!!

The day I spend $400.00 bucks on a mouse is the day I have my legs with a spoon!!!

i knew therapy wouldnt help, so i went ahead n spent the money instead on the wacom n other stuffs :)

i dont know... if you're a graphic artist, this is a must! after one project, it practically paid itself.
if u're still interested in purchasing, this place has the lowest price. the 9x12 is the best. the smaller size is for starters n too small. the bigger one are awesome! but they're too big to fit on a normal desk.

Arggg....You're confusing scan rate with precision. It's explained quite clearly here in the very article reef linked to. That refresh is how often it scans for movement, not how many distinct movements it can detect within a given inch of movement. I'm going to exaggerate to make a point. Let's say you have an optical mouse that scans at a rate of 20,000hz, thats great it means you can move it really fast without it "losing track" of the cursor coordinates. However it has a low dpi (or cpi as mentioned in the article), this means that within a given space of hand/mouse movement it "sees" far less registered movement. Or to put it another way, a 400dpi mouse vs. an 800dpi one...Using the 400dpi mouse you would have to move twice as far for the mouse (regardless of it's scan rate) to "see" an change in movement.

Now where this comes heavily into play is on a high-end pc with plenty of power pumping out high framerates in say, your latest first person shooter. Let's say you're busting along and get shot in the back, you instinctively spin around a full 180 degrees in less that a quarter of a second. The mouse with the higher dpi will give the impression of higher framerates and better quick aiming accuracy during that frantic turn because it made far more registered movements along the way, thus giving the impression of higher framerate and smoother motion during that turn.

So Becks, that is why the MS mouse still does not "own" the Boomslang, and why the Boomslang is still the best gaming mouse. I'll admit that the Dual Optical does now look very interesting though with it's increased precision.

I would go with the Microsoft one. I have the Microsoft Intellipoint Explorer, and I love it! Just plain good!

Err i didn't say it was 6000dpi

And 6000hz refresh IS important because explorer2.0 (1500hz) can't track 180s perfect... the explorer3.0 CAN and that is why its better than the boomslang.

I used the boomslang for about a year, I had one of the first to come out.

It owned at first and it got some problems. First of all the boomslang gets dirty way too fast... you have to clean it once a week or so. Then all of a sudden whenever I'd click it'd register as 2 clicks and I couldn't single click anything... I almost bought a new mouse but had no money. A week or 2 later it stoped doing it. Then the ball started getting stuck. I'd have to clean it out and while playing the ball would stop rolling when i'd try to move the mouse a little bit. Once I cleaned it, it'd work better for a bit. It got to the point I'd clean the mouse between maps during a match cause it never felt right.

I gave the mouse to my parents and bought a explorer2.0.

Changes noticed:
1. Very constant performance.
2. My aim got better, probably had to do with the more constant perfomance.
3. NO CLEANING IT.

Bad stuff

1. Doing 180s would throw it off.... there was a max speed you coudl do a 180 at and have it track it right. At first it threw me off but then I got to know how fast I could move the mouse and be safe. Sucked I couldn't spin as fast anymore but the improvements were worth it.
2. The boomslang has the teflon feet which I liked... :( /me still misses those.. I liked the smooth feel.

Anyways overall the explorer2.0 was better than the boomslang.

Then the explorer3.0 came out (6000hz refresh AND YES ITS IMPORTANT CAUSE THEN I COULD DO MY 180s)
Improvments = I can move the mouse as fast as I want and I never have it mess up.
Down = the button placements are annoying at first but i got used to them and now i don't care.

My parents recently had to get a new mouse because the boomslang stopped working (forget what they told me happend)
Of the people in my clan the 3 who use boomslangs, each have 2/3 to their name... boomslangs BREAK! One of my clanmates has picutres of him switching the broken buttons in one mouse with working buttons from another broken boomslang he has. YAY FUN! I'll ask him if they're still on his server.

I take gaming sorta seriously I guess... play mostly UT.. been in #1 on ladders more often than not probaby.. and probalby one of the top 10 players till I got my wonderful version dsl recenlty! wooo 300+ pings!
