There are apps that let you see the location of certain people but I think it would be awesome if Facebook implemented this.

What do you think?

Sshh. Don't suggest this.
They already (thankfully) killed the face recognition because Illinois sued them. Not that the feds don't still have backdoor access (I imagine).

Just because OP doesn't have any friends doesn't mean he gets to stalk mine!

Don't worry I'm sure they have this it's just that it's not public. :p

Ever buy something at a physical store then start seeing ads for that store or even the exact item you bought? They know everything. Same with Google.

They're watching AND listening through our phones.... and I sincerely wish I was just being paranoid.

Ah, another classic Gizmo j terrible idea thread.
If I want to know where a friend is, I will ask them, and vice versa.
It is a special talent.
They are so perfect, they are virtual mike drops as he walks off the stage never to be seen......
until next time.

Yeah it's crazy I've seen it many times for myself. Very specific stuff that is too specific to call it a coincidence. Said it would be cool to climb a radio tower once. Got an ad for the rigging company we contract to work on our towers, they had a job opening. That's no coincidence.

I got a custom rom on my phone now without any of the google stuff but I sometimes still wonder if it's still tracking me anyway, who knows what's going on at the hardware level, lot of stuff is closed source and even the hardware these days has tons of software in it. Even computer cpus now. That's why there are so many cpu level vulnerabilities, it's all software in there.

They also track your location and that is just done via towers so does not matter what OS you got or if the phone is even on. The government has been doing it for a long time but also during covid, to make sure people don't gather.

I was thinking you could choose who you want be able to track your location. Not everyone.
There are apps for that already... besides, only a complete idiot trusts anything about facebook.

One thing for absolute certain is that I wouldn't choose you!

You weren't born in 1994, so he doesn't care anyway

I suspect the reason some of you don't want this is because you don't want your significant other to know where you are at all times.

Do you really want or need to know where others are at all times?!?! Or others to know where you are at all times?

I'd imagine that Facebook already knows where many of its users are at all times if you set the location tracking settings wrong. Hell... they probably have a general idea of your location when you use the app no matter what just from your IP address.

Facebook probably wouldn't want that fact to be known by offering it to use that "feature" on your friends. Better just to keep it for targeted advertising.

I know as a fact that Google knows. A couple times I got a popup on my phone "How was your visit at Tim Hortons?" when I was there an hour ago. Creepy as hell. I keep location services turned off at all times so I think it goes by nearby wifi router mac addresses or something (ex: the wifi at the Tim horton's itself). I don't have stock android on my phone anymore though so don't get anything like that.
