I want dual 7900GT's, but should I wait for DX10 cards?

I can get two 7900GT cards for $320'ish each. I plan on doing this upgrade soon.. but should I wait? I'm hearing talk about new graphics cards that support DirectX 10.

I may just get them anyway..even if a new card with DX10 support came out, it would probably cost $400+. I can always sell these 7900GT cards later.. they will sell well, I think.

I would get them... in any case I'm sure you can sell both cards for 400$ to someone when the DX10 cards come out and buy a 400$ DX10 card, no loss and you get the benefits starting now.

Summary: I'd get them and sell them for a DX10 card when the first worthy DX10 game comes out (Crysis anyone?).

Wow, didn't think about that.

AM2, DDR2, and Vista I've planned holding off on. Forgot about DX10 and how that will depreciate the 7900GT.

Oh well. I remain a victim, trapped in a sick upgrade nightmare.

DX10 cards will not be released until sometime in Fall 06, which could leave you waiting for another 6 months. Then, it could be another 6 or more months after that before games actually use DX10. I'd get what you need now, and not worry about DX10.

Im thinking probably some of the newest cards will be DirectX10 compliant... I don't think they will be adding any shader/pixel requirements for the new one. They are just changing the way a few things are done and increasing performance with 10.

Actually AM2/DDR/Vista has little to do with video cards..

i say buy them now, wait until DX10 is out then mature so almost a year after dx10 is out (if u can wait that long) then all the kinks of dx10 can be worked out nicely and you have good parts rather than possibly volatile new stuff like the FX series was

Just a little humor at how we toil over the upgrade path. See beyond your linear confines my friend...

Honestly, I would have suggested consider what you have now. Although

Would suggest you've already made the purchase, but if you have something decent now, then unless you like just spending money in order to have the best there is, then there is no point. As for me, I have a 7800GT and I'm going to just wait for the G80. While in contrast, if I had, oh say, a 6800 Ultra, then it may be a worth-while upgrade.

Isn't it always the argument that software lags behind hardware and hence the DX10 compliant video cards will preceed the DX10 games by many months?
IOW, you may not find the need for DX10 hardware deep into 2007.
