So yeah.. I have a p4 3.0 and an AIW 9800 pro... and after reading everything about the aria I'm so sad! I'll most def run into heat issues... BUT here's my question...

Now I've used that blower before... and it actually works really well, so what about if you make it go the other way? Has anyone tried this? So from what I know, if you change the neg and pos of a motor it spins the other way around. So therefore it will be blowing air into the case right? Has anyone ever done anything like this before? This would seem to solve the problem of an intake in the aria. And if it does PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me! So I can get one!!!

I really don't want to cut a hole in such a nice looking case. I can get those blowers for like 9 bucks so I don't care about wasting one.. but I can't spend the 100 to get the case and not have it work.

Please help!

I hate to say it but I don't think your plan will work. I'm pretty sure blowers are only meant to spin/move air in one direction. I had a blower in my system a long time ago and I'm pretty sure I remember it had some sort of reverse polarity protection. I'm not 100% sure but I wouldn't count on it working.

I just came to the exact same conclusion today... to much heat. I wanted to run a P4 3.2, 9800 pro 128, 2x512 3200s and SATA raid 0 with two 80gig drives. I think it's just too much heat. even with the enclosed blower I don't see enough air intake.

IMO the best thing you can do with this case is to manage your cables and snake them like the newer Shuttle SFF's do, and do anything else to make sure airflow is as unobstructed as possible. Take out the front firewire/usb/audio cables you don't use, bundle your power cables with spiral wrap, rounded IDE cables as short as possible, try to tie back unsused power connectors and wires to a corner someplace, etc.

Well, I've got an AIW9700Pro (with artic cooler) and a 2.8Ghz P4 in mine, along with two hard drives, and it has no problems whatsoever. I set the cables in three different paths before I found one that left a decent path and allowed airflow.

I'm using the PCI blower, but turned it off and had no problems.

Looking into heat issues with this thing, it was pretty clear I shouldn't try a Prescott in it.

I have the EXACT setup you are considering. I have been playing farcry and experienced 62+ temps as well as several spontaneous reboots during the game.

Even when I play with the sides and top off, same situation. I think it might be power as well as heat.

YMMV though.

Yet Another Antec Aria BBQ Thread

Those are a great concept, but suck in practice. Either cut a hole in the side or slap some fans in it.

Hey careful with the fan!
reversing the air intake or changing the air FLOW of a laptop can have drastic effects.
It's not just about how much air intake you can produce! It's about air FLOW!
yes, you need to draw air in to a laptop to maintain the air flow. But you also definitely need to blow the hot air out (vent) efficiently! other wise you may end up melting your laptop. I have personally seen a melted laptop during my days as a technician (as a result of reverse fan installation)

CPU fans on most laptops not only draws air they also direct air flow. other fans on laptops only pulls air in or pushes air out.
when you modify the air flow you risk trapping hot air in your laptop (this causes extreme heating problems that could very cause melting of your laptop casing, damage to your hard ware, and the worse case your laptop becomes a ball of fire.)

sorry I thought this forum was for mobile computers.

Anywho! in regards to air flow desktops are about the same. there's a reason why fans blow in certain directions. And why there are multiple fan slots on a the housing unit also a reason why messy wiring can hinder air flow and cause heating flux. standard casing pulls air from the lower front and blows air out
the top rear (yeah I know some computers don't have fan's in the front... but if you check the case
there are fixtures for the fan there...) Remember cool air stays low and hot air goes up (thus the positioning of the fan.)

The heating problem is just more severe and easily induced in laptops (due to the compactness of the computer).
