I want a WP for TMobile. Why can't I have Lumia 900?

My household has all the other OS's phones, but I was really taken by the Lumia 900 on WP I saw with a colleague at work (I think AT&T). Now I wanted to upgrade my current non-smart phone to a Lumia 900 too, but I am dismayed that TMobile does not offer the 900. Just the 710. Why is that?

Of course, they have a nice offer of the 710 for free if I agree to a 2-year contract. Is that an indication that maybe they are getting ready to bring in the 900 anytime soon?

All this while I've been without contract, so am hesitant about signing one now. At the same time, I've been with T-mobile for the past 30 months without wanting to change despite the no-contract, so maybe I don't need to worry about the contract!

How much lesser of a phone is the 710 compared to the 900? What would I miss?

The 900 doesn't support the 1700MHz AWS band that T-Mobile is using for 3G, so I really don't think that they will offer it on T-Mobile ever. I don't know anything about the 710 so I can't say much about that. There is an announcement about upcoming Nokia phones coming on Sept. 5th, so if it was me, I'd wait a week or so to see what Nokia announces. They are likely to announce their autumn product line and it's likely to be interesting.

I wouldn't expect them to release anything new until Windows Phone 8. I just hope this time around T-mobile gets a better selection.

You dont really lose any capability between the two. The use the same processor and screen resolution.

The 900 has a larger screen. An 8MP rear camera (vs 5MP) and a front facing camera. I think the 710 only comes in 8GB vs 16GB on the 900. The 900 is LTE capable for AT&T, but Tmo HSPA is fast enough.

IMO, unless you can pick up a 710 without a contract for dirt cheap, like under $100 (which seems possible based on a quick Craigslist search in Charlotte) I wouldn't bother. You'll be much better off burning your upgrade on Windows Phone 8 device. Bit just look for a cheap 710. If you snagged one for a few months for $100, it might be worth it to you.

I can definitely wait a few weeks for better options.

CL for a cheaper 710 sounds good for now - good suggestion, I'll keep an eye out, thanks .

I got the HTC HD7 for Windows 7 on T-Mobile and it's pretty cool. I have less of a problem with the phone than I do with Windows Phone itself.

Didn't they start rolling out 1900 bands? (T-Mobile)

Yes, but progress is very slow and they aren't showing a map (that I have seen) of where 1900MHz is available but I hear it's mostly the Pacific Northwest and parts of California. So, while you are right, it's hard to imagine that T-Mobile would embrace a device that only works for 3G data on a small portion of their network.
