I want a wireless Access Point recommendation for the Inspiron 8200. I would like to use the laptop in two networks.

I asked a question similar to this almost three months ago and would like to know if I should still get a Linksys WAP11 or the D-Link 900AP+ for my home network. I would also like to restate that I already have a Linksys four port router, which has one empty slot left, in my home network.

I also want to be able to use my Inspiron 8200 wirelessly at work. At work, I only have one PC and currently have no routers. The internet access there is via AOL Plus DSL, which is PPPoE and requires sign-in. The DSL modem for the work PC is the internal Efficient Networks SpeedStream 3060 PCI card modem. The work PC also has a network card, but I would not mind installing a USB Access Point there. I wonder if it's possible to be online with both the PC and the laptop at the same time, since my work broadband service is with AOL. You know how they always tend to use proprietary stuff.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Your problem seems to be your internal DSL modem. I am not familiar with them, but normally you would just install a wireless router inbetween the DSL modem and your computers. It might be possible for you to add a wireless USB client to your desktop and share your DSL connection with ICS through the wireless. Then run both the wireless USB client and your laptop client in ad-hoc mode which does not require a router.

Maybe just buying a new DSL modem and getting a wireless router. The routers are going for abour $50.

Good luck.

access point for home would work just fine. the dlink or linksys you listed are good. for work, you'd need a router. i'm not sure if you're company will let you do that as it's not as secure as some people would like. might want to check with your IT dept.

Thanks for your replies.

For work, is it possible to connect both the laptop and the PC with the same DSL connection without having to get a router? For me sharing files would be good, but not required. I mainly just want to share the DSL connection.
