If Obama loses it probably WILL be at least partially because he's black, and his name is Barack Hussein Obama instead of Bob Smith. I've seen those McCain/Palin rallies on TV, some of them seem just a couple of sheets shy of a Klan meeting.

But Democrats will control the house and senate, and probably increase their majorities in both. Even if Obama loses, the Democrats won't have let me down yet.

I agree. I never considered myself a Democrat to begin with, but when they gained control of congress in '06 by promising to get us out of Iraq, and then completely failed to do it, I washed my hands of the party. I only vote for them to vote against Republicans now.

Argument: The Democratic Party should dissolve if they lose this election? It wouldn't happen for a number of reasons. Do you want only one major party? No. There's no other party poised to become the other major party. There's no indication that the USA is going to support more than 2 major parties anytime soon.

If Obama loses the only explanation I can think of is racism, a racism that somehow was suppressed and virtually unconscious until election day when it acted behind the curtains of the voting booth. Is that a reason to abandon the Democratic Party as a failure? They had the guts to nominate a black man, or what's called a black man in America, a man with a lot of African blood. They almost nominated the first female, kudos for that too. Do I blame them if they lose? I guess partly, but I won't be blaming them for the defeat. I will be blaming America in general. And like I said in another thread, I will be giving some thought to looking for another country in which to live.

Yes, I agree, Skoorb has jumped the shark and is out of his mind with the mere premise of this thread. Both the republican and democratic parties are not monolithic entities, both have equal potential to be out of step with the times, but over time there is a general resilience from both parties, and while either party may lose their way for a time, election results inevitably force a return to basic root values.

Skoorb asks exactly the wrong question in 2008, its the GOP who has lost their root values, and its the long long long probability the GOP who will pay the forfeit. And even if by some major miracle, the GOP manages to win in 2008, the GOP will merely manage to pave the road to more coming disasters in 2010 and 2012. There may be always some problems with democratic or Republican core values, but its undeniable certain, its the republirats who will pay the price in 2008. Even if the democrats lose the election of 2008, I will not abandon my core values. And its my hope that the republican party will refind their core values.
