Unfortunately, I don't have a garage...but I might as well look anyways -- I'll have one eventually. :p

I was going to get an '81 Corolla SR5 with a bit of work done to it, but the guy sold it to someone else after I committed to buying it..I wasn't exactly happy, but such is life.

I thought about a 93-97 Corolla..drop a supercharged 4AGZE (170hp) in, strip it, and have a relatively unique autox car..but there's got to be something better for same/less $$. Preferably RWD..must be manual trans..and cheap. Reliable would be good, but I doubt that's going to happen.. :p

I've heard the AWD turbo DSMs are pretty easy to make fast..but I also hear they're incredibly unreliable.

So...to all the car gurus of ATOT..what do you think?

Has to fit this criteria:

1) Cheap to buy
2) Good handling (I'll probably replace suspension anyways, unless it's better than my current car)
3) Preferably import..but I'll consider domestic =)

Omni GLH; Datsun 510; BMW 2002; Sentra SE-R (the early 90s one); NX2000; VW Beetle (the original one); Porsche 914/924/944; Neon ACR (first gen I think); Datsun Z (240/260/280); So many choices.

Based on this I suggest you get an early 70's 240/260/280Z...they are really cheap and have a lot of parts available to rice 'em all out.

That's stock with s/c...probably make 250+ with turbo -- 250hp in a light FWD car isn't too bad..definitely a sleeper.. :p

91-95 MR2 Turbos go for 7-9k...

The SR5 I was looking at was moderately quick..had ACT clutch, header, exhaust, Weber carb, MR2 seats..and he wanted 500 bucks for it. It was a steal..

Here we go..........

Get a mustang 5.0..... preferably one with mass air so you don't have to worry about switching that over.....
next get this kit.........
http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLine/Products/SM/SMK/300-501.html

Now you have 350hp
Then get a super charger..... Now you have around 500hp

As soon as i have the money that's what I'm doing.... unfortunately i have an auto in there at the moment... I plan to put a T-56 in mine.

LoL you can turn any car into an autox'er but why would you want something so big and heavy for autox'ing ?

Aren't the 94-98s a bit over 3000lb? Not sure what the foxbodies weigh, but I've been told they aren't exactly the greatest car for the corners.

They drift around like a motherfocker.
If you're gonna autox light and nimble is the way to go.

fox's with manuals are under 3k

94's are where the weight picks up.

MM developed the Road & Track Box into the ultimate extension of the stock-type suspension. Motor Trend confirmed the amazing handling ability of this package when they tested it for the December, 1998 issue of 5.0 Mustang. A 1990 LX Mustang equipped with the Road & Track Box tied for the 3rd fastest slalom time ever recorded by Motor Trend. It also easily attained .97 G on the skid pad.
