That seems to be the current mentality of smartphone design. Bring PDA abilities to the phone. I'm waiting for someone to bring phone abilities to the PDA. And yes there is a difference.

Because it's the best colaboration on the market as far PDA smartphones are concerned. You'd have to use one to understand.

What's the difference between the Life Drive an the TX with an expansion card? I might get the TX + a 2GB SD card for about $340. Besides the extra 2 g's and voice recorder... what's the difference between them?

I don't know much about the lifedrive, except that it is a lot thicker physically than the TX. I think it comes with lots and lots of memory too.

Regarding the TX, I am pretty sure it will only take up to 1gb SD cards. For me the TX is almost perfect. Right size, good battery life, great compatibilty with Office docs, and I love being able to check my email live wherever I find a wifi hotspot. If I had a bluetooth phone it would be even better.

Good luck with your decision. I think either one will do what you want.

...then I guess I can't help you. I was just about to recommend something with Palm OS. It's a lot "snappier" than anything Windows-based. (Snappy = quick response to user input)

The TX can use up to 4GB SD cards and the LifeDrive's interface lags because of its hard drive. I tried a Palm Treo 700w and Windows Mobile just isn't as snappy as PalmOS. It also takes more button presses / key strokes / going through menus to do things in Windows than in Palm in my experience.

I'm fairly impressed with my Dell Axim x51v. Although they are called "slow" (apparently because of the combination of WM5 and VGA graphics), I can't say that it's a problem on mine.

What DOES disappoint me, however, is the inability of WM5 to sync with my Exchange Server's "Public Folders". That's where I keep my shared Company contacts. I'm going to have to copy all those contacts to a "Persona"l Contact folder in order to sync them with my Dell Axim.

Regarding Palm vs. WM5, I've only used older Palms, but I wouldn't claim that WV5 is THAT similar to "full" Windows operating systems. It's pretty different. I am pretty impressed with WM5's handwriting recognition, thought. It works amazingly well for data entry. MUCH better than I expected. I assume that Palm does something similar now.
