Hi everyone,

Here's the deal, I currently have an "old" 42' LG HDTV projection television which look's pretty much like this one:
My TV

The thing weight about 250 000 tons and it's one of the ugliest thing I've seen in my life I have it for about 5 years now. I must say the image quality isn't bad but it only support 480p/1080i no 720p and don't even talk about 1080p. I was thinking of getting a PS3 for gaming but also for Blu Ray. However I've heard the PS3 doesn't scale the resolution like the Xbox360 does. So, since my "slim" TV doesn't support 720p it will scale down to 480p

So I'm here, wondering if it'll worth getting another TV... I haven't looked through brand & models for about 5 years and I'm kind of lost in the jungle now. Plasma or LCD? I've also heard about LED now?! Back 5 years ago I think Samsung & LG were the best & LCD was better than Plasma. On Plasma you could get some "burn-in" issue if an image stayed on the screen for a X period of time... Is it still true? What about the Hz? 60Hz, 120Hz and even 600hz. What's the difference? Contrast Ratio, does it's still make a difference?

I'm looking for a 42inches under 1000$ Canadian. I'll mostly shop at Bestbuy.com / futureshop.ca & walmart

Thanks for helping me out!

Plasma burn in is a thing of about the year 2000. Even my 2 year old Vizio with no burn in features doesn't have an issue.

LCD / LED backlit LCD are catching up to Plasma in black levels. Personally I would get a plasma or a LED backlit LCD. LED is probably out for under $1000 CAD..and probably USD, too. However a 42" plasma for under $1000 should be easy. Panasonic and Samsung make nice sets.
