I want a new LCD!

Currently I have a Samsing 910t 19" LCD. I love it, but I'm starting to save up and hopefully buy something bigger (and maybe faster). I play my share of games and watch movies as well. I'd like a 2405FPW but until they come back to sub $900 I can't afford them. I'm looking at either a 2005FPW (20" Widescreen) or a Samsung 213T (21" full screen). I could also buy a second 19", but I'd like to not have a gap between monitors.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Advice?

I'd personally wait for the 2405 to go on sale again. I had a 2001FP before it and this blows it away.

Hmm...maybe I will. I suppose the price has already dropped a ton since it first came out, I don't see why it won't drop more, eh?

How will my BFG 6800GT OC AGP run games on it? I'm thinking of doing dual 6800gt in SLI eventually, but for now, not enough $$.

I had a 6800GT before I got my X800XT and it ran games just fine. You of course might need to skimp on AA on the newer games like HL2, or Far Cry. But with 1920x1200 there isn't much need.

SLI'ed ones would be perfect though.

I remember when people were freaking that the 2001FPs were $750 at how it was such an awesome deal. And now you can find them for $400-$450 all the time if you give it a few days for the sales.

Me, I'm hoping the 2405 makes it down to $500 soon. But my $380 or whatever 2001FP will be fine in the mean time.

Heck I paid full price for my 2405 and I don't have an ounce of buyers remorse at this point. It might get cheaper later like every other electronic thing, but that's life. I'm lovin whole immersive experience of EQ2 or Splinter Cell on this thing. Best money I've spent on a computer part in a long while.

doubt I would, I'd be too busy playing games @ 1920x1200 and watching HDTV... 😛

I'd more than likely bump it to blame you and everyone like you for being too negative and somehow jinxing us into not getting affordable 24" LCDs.

2405 is the best lcd right now if you DONT game.....

The only thing that can push 1920x is going to be 6800GT/Ultra SLI or the next generation cards........

False. I play every game just fine, and dont have SLI. BF2 may push it pretty hard, but thats good timing when the new cards are allegedly coming out.

I've got the 2005fpw recently. For $400 it's really great IMO. HL2, EQ2, UT2004, SWG, all run great @ the default 1680x1050 res. I've only got the 6800nu card, too (although it is unlocked to full 16/6). No ghosting, no dead pixels and no backlight problem whatsoever for me.

I considered the 2405 for a while. But it was ultimately too hard to justify 2-3 times the $$ (depending on possible sale prices) for 4 extra inches of screen space. Not saying I wouldn't want to go 24" but 20 does suit me perfectly fine.

The monitor scales pretty well, so you could bump down the resolution during gaming..

9800 Pro should be decent, but starting to cut it close in some games..@ 1680

I'm torn by this as well. However, I've seen the 2005fpw in person, and it doesn't seem that much bigger than my 19" full screen. Then again I could sell my current monitor and pick up a 2005fpw for only a few more $$.

I think I'm going to save up for a 2405, should take me another couple weeks, maybe a month. If the 2405 goes on sale again, chances are I'll snatch it up. If not, maybe I'll buy a 2005 or something a bit cheaper, who knows.

Any input on the Samsung 213T? From what I've seen it looks just like a bigger screen size and higher native resolution than my Samsung 910t.

He's obviously one of those guys that has to have the absolute best, can't handle low frames and/or bumping down resolution or image quality. Its like he's implying 1920x1200 is all that much more stressful than 1600x1200, which my single card X800XL can handle just fine on all my games. Although I would probably agree that it would be a shame to deny such a beautiful display of anything but the best image quality and smooth frames.

You can almost always bump down the resolution on LCDs for games, because you aren't reading fine texts, it generally isn't noticable to the point its a distraction. Granted, for 5:4 LCDs (all 17-19"ers) you can't really do that seeing as how all other resoltions aren't going to be 5:4, so you'll have a 4:3 image stretched into your 5:4 screen making everything look squished from the sides. With a 16:10 panel you could always scale it back to another 16:10 resoultion to save on frames.

I play EQ2, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Doom 3, etc using an X800XT on a 2405FPW and it works just dandy at 1920x1200

Thats BS dude. My X800XT @ past PE speeds does it just fine In fact it did it find at plain XT speeds. With 0x AA and 8X AF. I also ran a 6800GT @ 425/1150 and it did great too. And this CSS with everything on high. THat game typically doesn't run well but on my system the lowest it drops is to 45FPS on extreme scenes of fighting. Other than that is almost always about 100.

It does HL2 just fine as well as FC..

As for using lower resolutions on it (IE 1680x1050) . Interpolation in games it isn't noticable AT ALL . Atleast not in my experiences.
