Hi Scott

How much battery life do you require. If you require 4 hrs + of battery life, a cetrino is your only real option.

Would you prefer a widescreen laptop? (Note that although widescreen is great, It adds bulk to the laptop).

As for the performance issue. Even the lowest cetrino with 512 MB Ram will out perform your desktop easily.

Can't go wrong with a Pentium M (not to be confused with P4 Mobile). Remember--you can get a Pentium M without the Centrino package.

You're not looking for a desktop replacement, so the important features are size, weight, battery life. I'd avoid the widescreen laptops for portability's sake.

Are you looking new or used? If optical media is a nonissue for you, then I'd suggest taking a look at the IBM Thinkpad X30. Not a very powerful system, but if you're just looking to take notes and surf the internet, it's a nice compromise. If you're budget is higher and want new, perhaps look into the X31.
