Take the keychain off.

Look for a keychain for use on a jetski, or watercraft. They are usually foam so they'll float.

I have a keychain that allows easy disconnection of individual keys/keyrings. I keep my bike key on that and put only the bike key in the iginition - the rest of the keychain stays in my pocket. That's your best bet.

what I use to protect my bike from stratchs on the top yoke are those little removable rubbers which go on the end on pencils.

The good thing about this:

If you have three keys - place two rubbers on the other two - when you use your disk lock, transfer the rubber across onto the ignition key - then when you return to your bike you have to remove the rubber from the disk lock key, this reminds you that you have your lock on.

Admit it we all have tried to drive off with the lock in place.

Even a foam one will scratch up the finish, it's going to happen over time with it flopping around in the wind. I don't have a keychain at all.
