I run a t-bred @ 2.4 ghz.. yes.. I know. there are faster cpu's out there.. highly overclocked p4's for instance. But I want something that is more than just a few % faster... And it doesnt look like there will be one until prescott :\.. feels so far away..so sad.. oh well .. I might live to see it.

You have a Tbred at 2.4Ghz and you want FASTER cpus? Good lord what do you do? Even video encoding should be fast on that (well not to a 3.0c P4 ;) )

My guess would be Athlon64.

Yeah.. but that would cost me upwards of o 1300 dollars (including prometia cooling)

A new revision t-bred or barton or something would be so awesome if it could do 3 ghz :D !

Btw.. I really do hope there will be a 0.09 micron t-bred.. I believe there could still be room for one cuz the a64 will prolly be too expensive for some time.. anyway 240 mhz * 12.5 could be pretty awesome :)

Hmm, I don't know how to feel about this thread, I was feeling good with my 2.09GHz Barton. Personally, I'd be happy with a new set of nForce UDAs, preferably one that boosts memory and HDD performance and fixes everyones sound issues. :)

Hey do you ppl also find the hdd performance of the nforce to be sluggish?

It is definitely slower than my o'l kt333 board!

Also.. do the latest nvidia drivera make any difference as opposed to trhe ones that can be found on abits site?

So, essentially this thread is just about wanting higher clock speeds? I am going to go AMD's route (and now Intel's) and say that clock speed isn't everything. My 2800+ Barton is MORE than enough to do anything I task it with, and I can only see a gain in alleged bragging rights by having anything faster. The only reason I upgraded from my 1700+ was because I want a PC that will still be fast enough a couple years down the line, since I only upgrade every once in a while. Also, as it was a 1700+ Pally, it was starting to get to slow for my using it.

Reminds me of a sign I saw in an engine shop once: "Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?"

Anybody remember Kryotech and their "thermally accelerated" Super G computers? They used a refrigeration system that pumped coolant into the PC, where there was a plate installed on the CPU, and it would cool the plate to -36 degrees C before it would power on the computer... they say it would maintain about -40 degree C as the computer is running. And by doing that, they got the old Slot Athlon 650's to 900 Mhz, and the Socket Athlon 1 Ghz processors to 1.86 Ghz. Too bad they still don't do that... could probably see 4 Ghz P4's and 3 Ghz Athlon XP's

A H/W site just did that with the new 3.2 GHz P4. They got it to run at 4 Ghz, but it was not totally stable. They said it was stable at 3.9 Ghz! They ran a full suite of Benches. I think they used a water cooling system. They were also able to get the 3.2 to run at 3.6 with retail HS/F.

Hey. no.. ofcourse better performance is what I want.

Regarding a p4 @ close to 4 ghz. Yes it would certainly be faster.. but would also cost a LOT more.. I spent about 45 bucks for the 1700+ I use now and it runs great @ 2.4 ghz.. and will run at 2.5 as well but then I have to set up the cpu fan to highest possible which makes for unbearable noise! (it will post at 2.6 ghz too btw and get halfway into windows at 1.9 V actual.

Anyway.. what I am talking about is ofcourse just my wet li'l fantasy of another budget chip that could reach 3 ghz :)

There really is no point to this thread btw.

Yep! Give us a blank check with the request to make it fast. We will definitely meet your requirement. Of course it's unlikely that you'll be smiling when you go to the bank!

Shuttleteam. no thanx :) I've decided to get a WD raptor. I think that's my best option to get a snappier system right now and it doesn't cost a fortune.
