Try your bank. They should at least be able to give you a secured card if your credit is not good enough to get an unsecured.

You can have mine if you want to assume the payments :)

Listen to yakko, just watch the interest rate and make sure you don't get burdened with a yearly fee

Have you ever heard of a DebitCard? Money comes right out of your account, not putting you into debt, but it still has a Visa logo and can act as a CC.

Your bank should be able to issue you one on your checking account. Look into it, cuz saving $$$ by not having interest on what you buy is a good thing. ;)

and you can still buy things over the net.

FFM-

I've had some bad experiences with my crappy bank;'s visa card. Its fine if you don't use it too much but if its gets slammed.

I had 600 dollars tied up for 3 months while they "investigated" the slam. yes I know I complained the same hour I found out but it was to no avail.

Tasts why everything goes on to my amex now.

That's how it all begins. Prepare yourself. A lifetime of being in debt awaits you.

hehe, i knew someone was gonna say that. but seriously. i only want it for that purposes. for the debit account, you have to have at least 100.00 in there. and i dont even have a 100.00 in my savings right now. i have about 23.00 or some where around there. i wont have another 100.00 for a while. :(

If you have a job,get a sears credit card, buy a few things and pay them right off. Then get a Discover card.It will do what you want.Pay it right off also.Never buy anything you cant payfor in a month with a credit card,or you will be nineteen and up to your eyeballs in debt.

Let's take stock of the situation. You are 18, and have less than $100 in the bank. You had a debit card, but apparently that contributed to the state of your bank account.

Seriously, please reconsider. In my opinion, don't even apply.

Now, I don't expect you to like that answer, and figure you to apply anyway. If you do, forget the rule a previous poster gave you about not buying anything you can't pay off in a month. The correct rule is:

DON'T BUY ANYTHING YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY IN THE BANK TO BUY RIGHT NOW.

Also, set it up with the bank to automatically pay off the entire balance of the card by the due date - not just the minimum payment.

Further, you should preferably have at least $500 or so in the bank at all times. My bank gives me free debit card transactions if I maintain a balance of $1000. Look into these things.

Following the above principles, it won't matter what the interest rate is, because you will never pay it. If you need a loan - get a loan. Just find a card with no yearly fee. Yo may have to ask for it, but they do exist.

Don't want to preach, but I've seen lots of friends get into trouble with debt. With a credit card, it becomes easier to spend, and the statement at the end of the month is always a shocker - how could I possibly have spent that much? But you did.

Regards,
Craig
