I really think i could use a cat to keep me company
however, i am not usually home till 6
i do not want to mentally abuse my cat

cats will survive just fine without you during the day. just give them lots of attention when you are home. however, i dont think you could do it with a kitten- they need a lot of supervision for the couple weeks before theyre completely housetrained.

getting 2 is a good idea- theyll keep each other company.

That's exactly what I did. I'll tell you what, getting a couple of cats has kept me sane while living alone in a new city without any prior contacts. Establishing a new social life post-college is much harder.

cats are ok if you like pets that make good furnature and act like they run the joint.

Now dogs are always "down for whatever"

me: "hey boy wanna go outside and run through a flaming forest"
dog "Woof!!11!11" [at the door with leach in mouth]

me: "move cat ur sitting in my damn chair"
cat: "...."
g/f (outta nowhere): "Don't talk to my kitty like that"

Cats are independent. I went on vacation for 10 days once and my cat was fine by itself. Just put a auto feeder and auto water and a couple of kitty litter boxes and your set.

Cats are so much easier than dogs. Just clean their kitty litter every couple of days. They clean themselves. Just get a auto water and auto feeder and not much work at all. They like to tear up furniture and carpet to. One of our cats is declawed but the other one has claws and terrorizes the declawed cat and rips the carpet.

My g/f's cat is more of a roommate than a pet. Friggen free-loader if you ask me.....uh oh here she comes.... ALT-TAB
