Are you willing to pay $1000 ?
There are several outstanding ones. i picked HP LP 3065. i like the screen and the feature of dual-link DVI to 3 PCs.
is the HP LED backlit?
i couldn't find anything saying it was.
What a ridiculous commentBig mistake to buy a HP monitor lol,,, horrible company imo
is there anything available yet?
It will run you close to $4k.
What do they cost?Get a Apple 24 in Cinema LED display and the atlona adaptor so you can hook it up via DVI. It's 1920x1200, but it's the best monitor in the world. It uses an H-IPS panel and it's glossy.
For one, Apple uses LED backlighting whereas the U2711 sticks with CCFL technology. But isn't CCFL worse? That depends on what you're after; the iMac 27 offers a 72% color gamut while the U2711 has a 102% color gamut (based on the CIE 1931 standard). Using RGB LEDs, it would be possible to get a similarly high color gamut, but our experience with RGB LEDs to date is that they cost more and consume more power than regular LEDs, so we can understand Dell's interest in sticking with the "older" technology. (We've only seen RGB LEDs in a few laptops so far, and as one example it's a $175 upgrade on the Dell Studio XPS 16 compared to a regular white LED display.)
go to the BH photo video and ebay. I think the adaptor is about $180 (new on ebay) and the monitor was about 800 when I bought it, IIRC.

May I ask why?
LED is not necessarily better. It saves power and makes less heat but it doesn't mean better image quality.
On laptops it's a huge bonus, as you get much better brightness for the same power drain, which is a major concern for battery life.
On desktop there is very little reason to use it, at least until the price for implementing it drops.
And also just as a side note, white LED back lighting sucks balls for black levels.

i have a dell ultrasharp 24" that bleeds in corners and brightness is not uniform.
i was under the impression that LED backlighting is more even.
and power savings is a definite plus.
but for $4k, i think i can deal.

About the only plus you'll see with LED backlit is the monitor won't be really hot. As the previous poster said, 30" panels get really hot, mine gives off a ton of heat, you can notice radiating out from the screen and the rear is super hot.
Generally I think Dell has the best 30", or the LG, not sure if that is still available. The ultimate best is probably an NEC 30" but if you want the panel for gaming, there will be lag.
If all you care about is gaming I would recommend the 3007, if you want a bit more and need a scaler and OSD, get the 3008.
