I want 2GB of Ram, which platform, which board?

I'm pretty green, but I've spent the last week looking for a midrange system. I settled on the MSI neo platinum, then I started asking about lotsa RAM and everyone seems to think that more than 1 GB is not a good idea - not just with this board but with this chipset. Is that right?

Anyone running 2GB RAM on this chipset? If not am I better of looking at an intel system, or (cant afford 939) should I go back to Althlon XP: in which case any suggestions for boards/chipsets?

I've been going round and round....

ps I want lotsa ram because I work with her-uge photoshop files. 200-500mb usually, occasionaly upto1.5GB.

I used a MSI KT8 Neo (s754) w/ (2) 1GB non-ecc sticks of Patriot (Micron chip) memory for a customers build the other day and it worked fine. If you can afford the extra $225 for a 1GB stick by all means get it. Otherwise use the money for a better case, power supply, and HDD.

No need for 2 GB of Ram unless for a server/extreme number crunching workstation/you like to spend money for mild performance increases.

as a rule of thumb photoshop needs about 5x the avarage file size to work happily. 5x500mb = 2500MB.
I'd put 3GB in if I could afford it.

I can get 1 GB corsair sticks for about 25% more than 2 512MB sticks in Aus, but god knows if they'd work.

Is that the KT8 Neo FIS2R or platinum? Can you give me the model number of the Ram? Was it working at 400 mhz or at 333?

Thanks
