I always prefered having at least one small bike that I can push 10/10ths unlike bigger bikes.

Something about hitting redline and not going 198 mph in second gear
 
I have had a few 250's the smaller bikes are fun too. I never raced them (did do motocross in 50 and 80cc) that looks a like a lot of fun.
 
Supermoto would not only be much more fun, it would be a fair amount cheaper as well. This is assuming you have tracks in your area.
