Any Recent "i know this sounds unlikely" shoot um' ups ? 2D, 3D?

Good looking 2D games..

Do you like old-school side scrollers?

Look up a game called Abuse. One of the most fun ones I've ever played. I think XP will run it.

I'd recommend Death Rally on DOSBox, the best 2D racing shooter game with machine guns, land mines, spikes, and sabotage.

I like to take a break from TF2 from time to time with these...All available for download in minutes on steam..

Geometry Wars - This can actually induce a "gaming trance" once you get in the 100,000-200,000 point range. (insane fast pace)

Heavy Weapon Deluxe - Mow down massive numbers of enemies yummy goodness. Demo available. (fast pace)

Peggle - I finally got this after reading review after review of it. Note: The peggle extreme (demo) version just utterly sucks. The 'unicorn' power up is the worst in the game. Not sure why they picked that one for the demo. (slow pace)

Also, the Contra games were pretty fun too.

I just posted recently about wondering when I can expect "Super Smash TV HD" :D

Jets N Guns Gold

Yeah thats a fun game! The difficulty is either too tough or too easy for me though, i get railed by the beer cube on the difficult setting because i couldnt afford better guns.

I have played Grid Wars and like it a whole lot (it's a Geometry Wars clone but if reviews are to be trusted, it could actually be better in some ways). The KB+M control fails me. When you get beyond simple blasting in the game, not having 360º movement and having to track a mouse cursor in addition to the ship is fatal. The optimal strategy is often to hang out at bad breath distance to a black hole, and if you don't have fine control, you'll drop in the hole.

Do you use a gamepad? Does Geometry Wars have a mouse cursor, or do they do KB+M the way they should and just make the shots go in the direction you last pushed the mouse?

I've played Grid wars,, AND Geo-wars.

The bio commando indeed looks cool, but I've beaten the NES version and I wasn't a Terribly avid fan.

I did just revisit contra III,, it is alot easier now than i remembered, the spread shot makes the game too easy,, kills the first boss in like 3 secs before he gets to shoot at u

I looked up Jet n' Guns,, it looks kinda like Soldner X himmelstrumer. Is it rediculously hard like that or is it easier.

Hurrican is a nice free side scroller, with great graphics and artwork and a surprising amount of depth to its gameplay.

I use a wireless 360 controller. It uses the "robotron" style of control...one joystick to move one to fire. After you get in the "zone" it almost feels like it's telepathically controlled. :p Never tried KB+M.

Fun game
