Sams has a couple good books. Their PHP4 in 24 Hours is pretty good, although it's fairly basic. PHP and MySQL Web Development, also by Sams, is also an excellent book, although more advanced. If you have the $$ I'd buy both, read the 24hr one first, then the second one. That's what i'm in the process of doing now :)

well chances are you won't be learning 24 consecutive hours... take 3 hours a day for 8 days. i think that's possible.

if you have programming experience (c, c++, etc) then it shouldn't be too hard, you could probably just start experimenting and learn that way.

I'll second the suggestion of Sam's PHP and MySQL Web Development book by Welling and Thomson.

Good choice for a language! :)

I would suggest downloading the manual first, then if you don't seem to be able to catch on get an after market book... Like that learn PHP in 24.

Good luck :). I would also pick up a MySQL book. They seem to go hand in hand.

I liked MySQL by Paul DuBois. ISBN: 0735709211, great guide, how-to, reference, etc.
