Hey all,

I recently picked up a 1998 Toyota Tacoma (standard cab, 2x4 2.4L 142hp) and I really don't like the tires that came with the truck. Looks all wussy, slim looks like car tires almost. So now I want to get some bigger tires and rims fo my little Taco. Now I don't have hardly any car experience but am willing to learn.

What I want are some nice looking tires, larger and wider. I'll be putting on some new shocks when I can afford it. What I'm asking is what size and brand should I get. I know bigger tires will affect mpg and my speedometer, but are there any other considerations? How can I tell what the ideal size should be? I do enjoy offroading so that is a factor as well.

And lastly how much do you think it'll all cost? Including rims.

oh yeah this is what I want my ride to look like when I'm all finished with it. I know tires won't do the whole thing, but I figure it the first step in the right direction.
Thanks dudes.Taco I want <--pictuer isnt working yet but I'm working on getting the mofo up.

dude i was talking to, probably out of his @$$, thought that if you got different sized tires you would need to get your differential recalibrated or something like that, otherwise you can screw up your driveline. now this doesn't really make sense to me but some of the big offroad guys he talked to had done such a thing. of course... they were probably moving from stock tires to huge off-road mudders or something, but still.

I think he was talking about on a 4wd truck. If you have larger tires on the back then you do the front and engage 4wd that can screw up your transfer case.

I have a 2wd nissian with 14 inch rims and while at the junkyard getting a new spare tire and rim I also got a pair of 15 inch rims off a 4wd nissian to mount snow tires on. I paid a total of $30 for all can't beat that :).

Getting ready to Order These right now actually as my Summer/Race tire, My current ones just won't hook up this year, My 60 foot went up by a full second on my last run since the new TQ converter, Man I hope these tires will be enough, if not guess I'll be getting the Mickey Thompson ET Streets in a 31 X 14.50... I'd just be worried about Drag after that 330 mark.
