I wanna external RAID enclosure

After much searching, I am annoyed at the choices for external drive enclosures. I am at a point with my rigs where I would like a couple external raid arrays that I can move around, because my cases are already filled with drives.

It seems the external cases that support raid cost a lot, as in hundreds of bucks, versus the30-40 bucks for a single drive case. Must just be different markets.

Is there a cheaper way to have an external array that I am not seeing? I've heard that you can just run a cable to make an external scsi array, but that has price issues as well. Is it possible to link 2 drives through firewire as a portable raid?

Sorry, just a bit frustrated.

Software raid like netgear sc101 is 99 bucks but slow as hell..

I got the thecus nas unit.. it supports raid 1, what you're talking about requires an processor, so it'll look more like a NAS than a external drive enclosure.

Cheap way.. probably not..

I have an external scsi enclosure that has 0 raid capability.. raid is on the controller..

I know firewire raid is possible on a mac never looked into it on the pc side though

Might be easier for you to get a SATA raid card with external connections and some eSATA cases
