I was just wondering the other day if those lawn signs actually made a difference. Now I know.

I just don't bother voting if I haven't been following the candidates. I worry that I might vote for something that I really don't support.

I'm pretty sure most voters don't have a fscking clue why they're voting for who they're voting for.

We have our Mayor and city council positions up for grabs today. Most of the mayoral candidates are city councilmen...so it doesn't matter much who gets elected. They're all about the same. The candidates for city council are from a wide variety of backgrounds, but again, it doesn't really matter which ones get elected. Even though the positions are technically "non-partisan," they all toe the line of their respective party backgrounds...which around here, means Republican...so nothing will change...and the city will continue its spiral into the sewer. Slashing workers' wages and benefits while hiring management personnel at higher than market salaries, cutting government services and/or jacking up the costs to the citizenry while reducing the costs to local businesses. (Fuck the working chumps, let them pay the costs for the businesses who support us.)

Many areas of GA are voting on sunday alcohol sales today. I can almost hear all the battened-down Baptist heads exploding.

Difference between a Baptist and Methodist: The Methodists speak to each other in the liquor store.

Like, actually went to a polling station and voted? Places still do that? All mail in ballots here...I sent mine in weeks ago.

They send you a nice voters pamphlet with each candidate and what experience they have, with a brief statement from each. They have a breakdown of each initiative with a statement from a "pro-" group and an "anti-" group.

It's not perfect by any means...but it's nice, and makes the process very easy.

I just don't vote for the candidates then (I mean, I don't have kids. I don't give a fuck about who the school board director is). I still vote on local and state issues since those are easy to research.

Just voted and now confused. We had these 8x20 or so 'cards' to fill out by hand. Fill in the circle like a multiple choice test when I was in school. This is progress?

Which corporate shill do you prefer?

None, I hate them too. They are the one that bring the corrupt politicians that favor them to power. The whole system is corrupt and looking for short term gain, everyone knows that in the long term its disastrous and therefore pushing their short term gain even more and that's hurting the country even more. Its a uncontrollable downward spiral. This whole "free market" thing is crap, we need protectionism and stop importing but neither the politicians nor the corporations will let that happen. All they care about it how to make the siphon out the most money they can and run away before the impending doom.

Instead of "occupy" movement, we should have "baricade the country" movement, its a silver bullet
