Was interested to know 'cos i'm on a power saving kick atm (walking around turning off lights, hibernating my rig if i have to leave it for more than 5 mins, turning the missus's computer off when she's not using, generally being a cheapskate PITA) 😀

Go into the bios and go into the power settings. Where it says s1 or whatever change it to s3. Now try hibernating the beast.

Hibernation saves as much power as if the system were off (because, really, it is off).

how bout standyby?

I think that just shuts off the monitor and hard disks.
S3 standby does lower the amount of power used for the entire system, I believe, I'm not sure of the total power savings though.

I use S3 standby on my MCE box, it's really cool, it puts the system in standby until a scheduled recording. It wakes up for the recording or when someone uses the remote.
