Thanks everyone for their thoughts. I'm going to attempt to get some sleep and hope the nightmares aren't too bad tonight.

And thanks for the PM's as well. The kind thoughts really help!

Prayers to be with her!

The real question is, WTF is that person doing with HYDROCHLORIC ACID? What were these two scientists bickering over a discovery or something???

I'm sickened by this.....

Moreover.. I'm also.. sickened by the fact that we want to do just the same thing to the guy as an equal payback. I know, I know, he deserves it. But it's still sickening.

Anyword on what happened to the BF? Was he caught? Still out roaming around somewhere? There is a quote from the bible, do unto others, but in this case. I say no, he deserves to be punished, we are no better than he if we do. Sick I tell you, just sick. :( Any updates on the girl would be appreciated, I'd like to even send her a card, if she survives, let her know our thoughts and prayers are with her. *sigh* I'm sorry.

Your loss. Not much fashion sense to him, but the guy had both wisdom and wit.

The wisdom:
When asked what advice he had for Christians, Gandhi replied, ?First, I suggest that all Christians must begin to live more like Jesus Christ. Second, practice your religion without adulterating it or toning it down. Third, emphasize love and make it your working force, for love is central in Christianity. Fourth, study the non-Christian religions more sympathetically to find the good that is within them, in order to have a more sympathetic approach to people.? We Christians need to heed that advice today more than ever.
The wit:
When asked what he thought of Western Civilization, Ghandi replied, "I think it would be a very good idea."

I looked in the paper today to see if there was any mention, but nothing so far.

DeathBUA, you have a much tougher job than I'll ever have.

From what i have heard, most of the stuff in the local papers barely scratches the surface of the true Detroit.

That horrible.

My fiance' was a paramedic for a long time. She lived for the blood-in-the-mud. She'd seen everything there is to see as well. The only things she ever had a hard time with was very old, young or mentally handicapped people. It was heartbreaking to her when someone, who just didn't understand what was happening to them, would be so hurt or scared.

Her worst moment, and probably one of the defining moments of her career that made her leave the job, was being first on scene to the Columbine shootings, and one of the first to enter the library. It was a horrible experience for her, to have seen so many children just shot, for no good reason.

Happens too often in India (and some other Asian countries, for that matter):
1. Guy gets obsessed over some girl. Knows nothing about her. Never spoken to her.
2. Guy turns into a stalker, following girl around town.
3. After a few months, he walks up to her and asks her to marry him.
4. Girl says no.
5. Next day, a guy in a motorbike rides up to the girl, throws acid on her face and rides away.
6. Guy gets away, girl can't afford plastic surgery and is ruined for life.

Gandhi's wisdom left his country men a long time ago.

That is horrible. I think I would have a different reaction than tears, I think I'd want to take revenge for her. That guy would be sorry if he ever met me.

Acid is simply an easily-available and inexpensive and horrific device used in violent crimes. Americans tend to use guns more often.

The largest single category given for motivation for these crimes in acidsurvivors.org is Land/property/money dispute. The numbers of such crimes (say 500 in a country of around a 140 million (e.g. Bangladesh)) put them well below the relative frequency of even murder in a single big US city.

The crime is often in intent and result essentially murder, and IMO the offender should be treated accordingly.

I have seen many fine people working in hospitals. My love and respect goes out to them.

I'm speechless. Just goes to show that there are some pathetic, truly miserable people out there. I can't begin to imagine what she's going through, so I won't pretend to try to make sense of it.
