I was just thinking about how when I used to fly 10 - 14 years ago I would always get to go in the pilots cockpit to get a chance to see the way they fly the plane and such..

I am assuming it has been, but have they banned such things?

Of course not. They let anyone in the cockpit at just about anytime.

after 9-11, pretty much all cockpit visits are banned. In fact, I think most airlines require the pilots to be in the plane and door locked before any passengers get on board.

Pretty much... every time I've been on a plane since 9/11 both pilots and I guess the "head flight attendant" stand in the cockpit doorway looking everyone over as they board the plane. Guy ahead of me took a look into the cockpit while walking by and the pilot asked "can I help you?" Completely understandable though considering "recent" events. They need to screen passengers better though.

You guys suck. Every flight I've been on in the last two years they still offer tours, sometimes they actually put the plane on auto pilot and let passengers sit down. In a few cases I've asked if I could man the controls and, as long as a co-pilot is next to me, they actually let me use the joystick a few times. Something they said they like to do on the long flights, when high up, is have somebody go in and in 15 seconds press all the buttons and levers they can, and then the pilots go in and it's a game to see how quickly they can figure out what the passenger did, and try to fix it.

What do you think the answer is?

Have you ever been in a turkish prison?

If in Turkish prisons you videotape your roommates in the shower, then yes I have been!

nah....they still let you. They'll even let you take it for a little test drive if you ask nice enough. OF COURSE THEY HAVE BANNED IT!!!

I nominate this for the stupidest question of the month. They don't allow finger nail clippers on the airplane anymore but you think they are going to let you stroll around the cockpit like it's a cocktail lounge?!?

I've been on a few flights recently, after we landed there was a kid hanging out in the cockpit on more than one occasion... no discussions of grown men naked, etc, that I could overhear. Since I was in the back (or not in first class at least) I'm not sure when the kids were brought in, but, I assume after landing. Perhaps they're just training younger pilots these days...

I'm not sure if this is one of your serious posts or not...but I'll assume it is.

I, too, used to ask to go visit the cokcpit when I was young. And I always was allowed. Once I even sat in the cockpit for an entire 40min flight which was in a Mc Donel Douglas passenger plane. That was fun. The pilots were really cool and friendly. The view when your in the landing procedure is awesome..you see the plane bank and then the ills come up..and you just go over them and there is hte landing strip. I enjoyed it immensely..

It was especially cool to visit the 747 cockpit with all the buttons and lcd screens.

Ah the simple pleasures of life. It's a shame that we've come to a point where its not allowed anymore.

No, they havent banned that. They have, however, banned the activities that ensued that were not related to flying. But have some hope, NAMBLA is on your side.
