Ok, I used the pencil trick described here:
http://www.xcl-clan.com/articles.php3?id=29

But the problem is that after I did it, the core is at 2.14v. It was at 1.63 before, and the retail 8500 is at 1.75. So is this too high? The card still works and there are no artifacts, but I can't overclock it any higher than I could before. And could this have long term damage on my card?

Any feedback for me here?

Yes. If those numbers are correct, you are going to cook your card -- fast! Reverse that pencil trick asap. Don't run your card until you do.

i managed to cook a r8500 with that stupid pencil trick, so be careful. overclocking isn't worth it, especially not on something that expensive. i was lucky enough to get the card rma'd. just put some ram sinks on your memory, and i've heard of people putting a nice copper hsf on the core. on the newer cards, people are reportedly getting 330 core/330 memory. good luck.

Damn, I had no idea how close I was to ruining a perfectly good Radeon8500...

Yeah, no more voltage mods for me, thank you! =P
I'm gonna go get some heatsinks for Ram and I'm gonna put my blue orb on it! Wheee!
