A family member needs a new desktop, but does not use it for extreme gaming or video editing. I can pay him the difference between my current parts and new parts to upgrade what I have. Alternatively, I can purchase cheaper parts for him and keep my current build. One of the most expensive parts will be the inclusion of a CPU, motherboard, and RAM.

My current build:
- i5 4570k
- Asus Z87-A
- 16gb DDR3 RAM

Microcenter currently offers a discount on processors and motherboards. I can buy an i7 6700k and an Asus Z170 motherboard for $370 total. RAM would cost $75 for 16gb.

Alternatively, I can buy parts that suit his needs. I can buy an i5 6600k and Asus H11M/M.2 for $220 total. RAM would cost $40 for 8gb.

Why are you looking at old 6th generation Intel parts if you're buying them from Microcenter? The 8th Gen products are cheaper than that.
