I updated my list. I originally thought I had done my homework, but thanks to you guys I realize I kind of had the right idea but was geared more towards SLI and too many bells and whistles. What I?m really looking for is a fairly basic yet solid gaming PC. What do you all think of the new setup? If you feel I have more homework to do, please be nice about it.
Case: Gigabyte Triton 180 Black - a lot less $ and fits the measurements I need. The side-panel CPU cone is removable.
CPU: Q6600 (GO Stepping preferably) - chose the Q6600 for future-proofing, and I understand it overclocks well; which is something I will be doing.
CPU Cooler: Tuniq Tower 120 - that should cover any OCing I do and then some. Better safe than sorry, decent price.
MOBO: ASUS P5K Deluxe - many people recommended P5K. After reading lots of reviews, tests, and experiences I think this board is the way to go for OCing.
RAM: Corsair XMS2 2x1GB PC6400C4DHX - should give me enough OCing head room.
GPU: 8800 GTX 768MB - was able to save myself almost $1k from last setup so I put it towards the GPU. Not sure if it?s a little overkill though with the 19? 1440x900. I?m hoping it wouldn?t bottleneck with not enough to do. AA and AF are important to me though. I?m big on graphics.
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 32MB Cache ? what?s the deal with only OEM availability?
PSU: Corsair CMPSU-550VX - per GTX requirements and the fact that I would rather try a single rail PSU and price reasonable.
Optical: Lite-On DVD Burner SATA LH-20A1S
OS: Windows Vista home Premium 32 Bit Retail Version
