He should have controlled his words but I think that an apology would have been enough. He's one of these guys who can't avoid saying stupid stuff but I don't think he's a nazi.

The mans been a hack for years now, he puts out amateurish trash and rides on supposed controversy, it is his career.what gets me were the folks that bend over backwards to reinterpret his crap films like dogville as something meaningful, at that point you could stare at a dog turd and call it profound.

He did this for publicity, and one potential result of his antics is a ban from Cannes. I think it was obvious that he was joking but they're welcome to do what they want with their festival.

I think the "jew-card" has outplayed it's role.

I wasn't even alive when holocasut accoured, but I do wonder why Irsrael is copying the nazi ghetto metods and it's okay?

How long can they use the "nazi's killed us in the last millenium" card to do some of the same shite...and everyone looks the other way?

What Israel is doing is nothing like the Holocaust and to say so demeans the millions of people who died in concentration camps and the tens of millions who suffered under the Nazi regime.

As for the actual topic, his ban underscores how uncomfortable the French are with their role in Hitler's Germany and the complicity in the Holocaust itself.

I wasn't talking about holocaust, you muppet.

I was talking about stuff like the warsaw-ghetto:

Now look at the land Israel occupies in gaza/the west bank and their polices there...that is awefully similar.

No, they aren't. And name-calling doesn't make you any less wrong than you are.

The Warsaw Ghetto is inextricably linked to the Holocaust, it was a tool of the Holocaust, a component of the Holocaust and, ultimately, 100,000 people died there because of starvation and illness. 250,000 - 300,000 residents of the Ghetto were shipped off to Treblinka where they were promptly gassed. Tell me exactly how the Warsaw Ghetto isn't part of the Holocaust?

As for your comparison, Palestinians aren't being forced to survive on less than 200 calories a day, they aren't being shipped off to death camps, and there is no genocide. They certainly aren't dying in the streets by the hundreds every day. While there are many reasons to be upset with Israel for its treatment of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, it's completely disingenuous to compare that situation to any of the Nazi ghettos.

Well there you go, you're mad at Israel's treatment of Palestinians. The argument of whether Israel should "know better" is completely tangential to the topic that you brought up, namely that the treatment of Palestinians is the same / worse than the Nazi ghettos / Holocaust.

It's fine to be pissed off at Israel and call them all sorts of names, but what they're doing is nothing like what the citizens of Warsaw were subjected to, which you seem to be basically in agreement with, considering you can't say anything other than you're mad at Israel.

Lonbjerg,

remember when at Cannes to promote Dogville, he shows up at one of the major dinners barefoot, stands up in the middle of the event and loudly calls out Nicole Kidman to promise that she will star in his next film? He pestered her and refused to sit down until she promised, so she acquiesced.

(Her publicist/manager calls Trier's assistant the next day to inform him that there is a "scheduling conflict" after all, and Kidman would not be able to appear in his film.)

Fuck that guy for having an opinion. You'll think the same as everyone else, or face the consequences. That's how we do things in the free world....

Europe and Australia/NZ have already stopped caring about certain inalienable rights that we as American's covet. Unfortunately, America is moving in that direction too.

You should look into his publisher "Zentropa".
Peter Ålbæk Jensen is the boos.
He is just a good at "scandal" PR.

He has said:

"Even if your entire family had been exterminated at Auschwitz, whether you are multi-handicapped and must be dragged onto the stage, so it should not affect our decisionon "talent 2008" on national dansih TV where he was a jugde in 2008.

And posed fully nude, full monty...just to make a showing.

Those guys knows how to get a buzz going...

I work with a bunch of Danish people.

They are indeed full of lulz on a daily basis.

I find it funny this festival prides itself on freedom of speech and expression. Then bans this douche when he excercises it lol :D

I think Cannes always understood his approach to drawing attention. So, they got the chance to use an excuse to ban him.

Freedom of speech and expression is great - however, if what you state and express is more disruptive than meaningful, you deserve to get pushed aside in any way possible.

Like the Westboro Baptist church. They are protected from yelling and screaming hate. But, people have found ways to shut them up or at least hold them back somehow.

Genghis Khan wiped out whole countries and is revered in Mongolia. Time has away of changing these things. Like I know Hitler is revered in Muslim world. Say 200-300 years they dominate?

Hitler is revered by Muslims. That statement has as much truth as how much Jews hate Muslims and do everything to destroy them and their credibility.

Btw, Hitler was evil but this dude has every right to say what he believes.
