I am a dane, so I am used to Trier.
But I am amazed how he at Cannes is able to steal all the PR.
I don't get why people jump in with both legs year after year after year.
1991:
Trier called Roman Polanski for "the migdet" when reciveing award.
2000:
He said this to Gilles Jacob "I do not know how much you know about movies, but you're a nice guy"
And to the press:
"If I had made a film that everyone had the same opinion about it would be a clear sign that I was done. You must excuse me, but actually, I appreciate that I can get some to hate my movies"
"Well, why should I now elaborate what I said at the press conference about George Bush? I did not say that he was an asshole. I said I think he is an asshole, and legally there must be a difference between the two things."
"How the jury has received the movie is not important for me when I see what else is important to me in my life. Whether it would be fun to win the palms for the second time? Yes, could it maybe, but ..."
2005:
"As I've said that I am 60 percent American, I can say that there is one thing that kills any debate - an American disease called political correctness which is a fear to speak freely."
"A large part of our lives with America to do. In our country it is overwhelming. I feel there might as well be an American military presence in Denmark. We are one nation under very bad influence because I think that (then president, Ed.) Bush is an asshole and really make a lot of stupid things. America has set itself onthe whole world, and so I make films about it."
2009:
"I think it's a very odd question that I must defend myself (to show genitalia mutialtion in the movie, Ed.). that is how I feel. You are all my guests, not vice versa."
"I am a measly Christian, I'm not a believer. I came early in my life until that life on earth, nature or man can not be created by a merciful god."
"I 'm not sure that God is the best god in the world but I'm the best filmmaker in the world."
Tune in for next years PR move...notice how Trier now is the topic...and not the movies...brilliant PR.
And yes, Trier really don't give a flying moneky what people think of him:
