Anyone know of any good dsl modem/switche combo? I guess I wouldnt have to have the combo but it sure would be nice. I see one at cdw for $200. Or am I better off getting a dsl modem and a seperate switch? The local phone company wants $225 for a dsl modem only! I know I can do way better than that on my own! Any help would be appreciated. <B>

My previous setup in Florida was an Alcatel speed touch ADSL (USB) Modem(looked like a sting ray) and a Linksys BEFSR41 Router. Check around in here Im sure someone has the ADSL modem used for a 20 spot and the router you can get pretty cheaply too at one of the online stores for 60 to 80 bucks. Which still puts you in way under what the phone company wants to stick it to you for.

I can't help you myself but if you go over to the dc forum we have quite a few networking members in team Anandtech some of who I'm sure could help you out.

I have a set up similar to that, but with cable. I would recommend a seperate router/switch combo like the BEFSR41 so that if you ever move or switch to cable, you will be able to use the same equipment.

Make sure the DSL modem or router you get is compatible with the DSL system you're connected to. It is not a universal system until after you get to the Ethernet jack in the back.

Your provider should have a compatibility list.

Good Luck
