I work in retail, and the M$ rep came into the store today to show us the Zune. I thought it was an ok idea before, but after today I might actually be buying one.

It is a shame that it is only a 30GB HDD, but that should be enough content for my use. Mp3 player, movie player, works with the 360, can buy music from the marketplace, to me it is a good solid unit either way you look at it.

So here is my question....It has a cable that will connect it to the RCA jacks on a tv, you will then be able to stream whatever is on the Zune onto the tv....Well say I use my media center pc to record a tv show, will that be able to be transferred to the Zune?? If so, then that might just have guarenteed a purchase from me.

I have lunch every day at 11, and I gotta tell you since we dont have cable, I get tired of the Price Is Right day in and day out. LOL, to have my own tv choice would awesome. I could bring in Hereoes, perhaps Battlestar Galactica.... The possibilities are nearly endless.

Actually now that I think about it, do you think that there might be a better media player that could do the same thing at a cheaper price?? It would have to have at least 10GBs of storage, and the RCA cables are a must, hmm anyone have any ideas?

The Zune has really impressed me, and I think I will probably end up with one by years end, anyone else plan to grab one?? Maybe someone reading this has one, what do you like, dislike about it.

I think its funny, I am buying this more for the video watching than the mp3 aspect of it. Oh well, to each his own I guess.

I took mine back. Whenever the backlight came on the FM Tuner would lose it's signal or get an insane amount of static until 20-30 seconds after the backlight went back off.

Sorry, don't know the answer to your question. :)

A vote for Zune is a vote for DRM. If you like DRM, buy a Zune to support it

I don't know about cheaper. When I want something I try to get what I want. I'm quite intrigued with this one.

 Please, spare us all the rhetoric, every single portable media player has DRM, whether it's a PlaysForSure device, a Zune, or an Ipod.

Flashram, did the FM tuner record stations?? not that I think I would want to do that, but just wondering, some Mp3 players do that.

I have an Iriver MP3 player without any DRM.

I can't stand Apple's monopoly on the portable music market. There. I said it.

I like the looks of the Zune. I like the feel of the Zune. The only thing stopping me from buying it is the DRM on it. Something that I make myself should not be have to be wrapped in DRM so that I can share it with a friend. I want them to share it with others in the hopes that they share with even more people.

I know there's a workaround for podcast support but everybody says it sucks. There's no reason why I shouldn't be able to share my podcast with friends.

I don't give a crap if it doesn't support certain music stores. But it's stupid that the Zune doesn't even support MSs previous store before the Zune came along.

I would buy a Zune if it didn't wrap DRM in EVERY SINGLE file. The DRM is the only thing keeping me from buying one.

ETA - Ipod fanbois don't have much to say in this thread because their life is wrapped in DRM. People pumping Apple products are useless.

I did not see an option to record.

Great, now realize that some people actually appreciate the convenience of buying one song at a time, or buying from the comfort of their own home, or not having to rip all their albums.

so whoever here is anti DRM, what do you use?

Plus, keep in mind that I want to use it 50/50, video/audio. I don't see myself using it only for audio...Wonder how/if DRM effects Media Center recorded television...

Buy all the online music you want. I just hate too see people getting ripped off because the music they bought disappears, or that the file format is no longer supported. I'm just concerned that people may buy music and find out that they don't have anything playable. Contact me in five years when you might find out that that music you bought is no longer playable.

I do enjoy ripping my CDs and I have the option of MP3s on the go or CDs at home.

I have an Iriver MP3 playerwith 1 gig of flash memory. It's very small. It holds about 230 songs and plays for 12 hours on one AA battery. Mine was $229.00 2.5 years ago. They now sell at Newegg for about $150.00, I think. There is no video on this model.

You do realize that you can also burn the DRM'd songs to CD, right? I personally own an Ipod, and I buy the CDs from artists I like but I go to Itunes if I just want a quick song.

This is beside the fact, that you can also put DRM-free songs on pretty much every audio player (incl. the Zune, AFAIK).

Ooo, sorry. I was just commenting on the first question. I guess you could use iTunes for DRM free music and rip your own videos and use it on a nice 80GB iPod. 100% DRM free.

As a semi-Mac fanboy, I see the Zune as a piece of crap. However, it does have some good things based on the specs and not on actual usage of the device. The wifi is a good idea, if they had market penetration. If the Zune was a piece of crap, then why has it surpassed Sandisk and become number 2 in relation with the iPod. I have nothing against the iPod. I love my 1st generation iPod Mini and will probably buy the next iteration of the iPod. However, the Zune has a larger screen, so it has that over the iPod. I love the ability of the Zune to use your own pictures and put that as the background of the Zune. The DRM which is very restrictive, more restrictive than others. <---in response to a previous reply. That is what turns people away from it. If you want a good portable media device where you could transfer videos from your MCE PC, I would go with the Toshiba Gigabit. It is cheaper than the Zune and does everything you want, sans the wifi capabilities. I cannot wait and see until the next iteration of the Zune and I think that Microsoft will give Apple a run for its money. With Apple's design ingenuity and Microsoft endless cash supply, the Zune and iPod cometition will be very beneficial for us consumers.
