I tried out a Samsung Fascinate tonight...

...and I REALLY liked it. I currently have a Droid X, but the Fascinate felt lighter and much nicer in my hand. Surprisingly, the UI was a bit snappier too.

Too bad it would be a downgrade / side-grade to my Droid X. :(

I wouldn't say the GalaxyS phone would be a downgrade. Both phones are essentially on the same level.

Definitely a downgrade. GPS problems, flimsy design, OS updates from Samsung MIA, and Bing.

Hold off on phone purchases for a few months anyway, Droid X should be fine until Verizon launches their LTE phones and refreshes their line up. :p

GPS is the only issue. Flimsy because it is light? How does that equate to flimsy? Bing is a VRZ fuckup not samsung.

Yea it really isn't a downgrade. They're on the same level. The Samsung has a great super AMOLED screen, a faster GPU, and say what you will about TouchWiz but its very smooth compared to stock. I personally find the 4" form factor to be a lot better in the hand than 4.3". Given the choice between the two, I'd go with the Fascinate, personally.

I liked the Fascinate, but I felt the Droid X's screen real estate made it that much more appealing. They both felt around the same speed (even though technically the Fascinate has the faster processor) and were both made fairly well, but I believe that the Droid X has a much more solid feel in comparison to the plastic of the Fascinate; though the Fascinate was nice and light. But again, even with all of that, I still felt that I've heard less problems and seen more durability with the Droid X and that is why I went for it.

Honestly, in regards to the flimsiness, the Droid X feels more solid but it also feels a lot more bulky. The Fascinate really doesn't feel like it's going to break in my hand, but it does feel a lot lighter and easier to handle. The Droid X is the first phone that I've nearly dropped on a dozen occasions simply because of the unexpected weight as I flip it in my hand, etc.

If they had the Fascinate out when I bought my Droid X, I probably would have gone with that instead. The GPS issue is really the only thing that concerns me.

Oh well, we'll see what the future holds. :)

Leaked firmware fixes GPS. Somebody might be willing to trade you, though...

Yeah, I was tempted to see if anyone had a Fascinate and wanted a Droid X instead. The only downside is the fact that I take immaculate care of my phone, and I find it hard to find someone else that does the same with theirs (often times, I'd be looking at trading a phone with no scratches or dings for one with multiple).

The Droid X is a great workhorse. I just wish it was a bit smaller and lighter.

Am rearing to get he Nexus-S. Didn't know that it had a dedicated GPU which makes things nice and smooth.

i really wanted a fascinate but got the droid x
i am a sucker for looks and the fascinate was pretty, thin and light.

i had an original droid though, moto was really good about keeping the software up to date and that won me over.

too many horror stories of crappy software related things on the fascinate, i had a bb storm once upon a time and know no matter how pretty and good the hardware..the software will still make or break you.
