The "I'll give that slut bra technicalities" is typical juvenile/dumbass bravado, heard in many a high school locker room and local watering hole since time began.
And that does not justify it in any way. I think this your primary problem Rollo. You don't get offended, so you don't understand why people get offended by comments from others, including(and often)
you. Unfortunately I don't think even the wisest person on earth can explain to you what your problem is, it's something you need to figure out on your own.
Fact is, it's offensive, and it can't be allowed.
I think "the wisest person on Earth" probably understands "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me"?
And what of this name? "slut"?
Applied to a man, considered a positive by many.
Definitely derogatory when applied to a woman, but only due to an ancient double standard most modern folk should be able to see through.
So he referred to a woman as a "promiscuous woman"- I've liked some promiscuous women pretty much.
Are women a minority that need protection from being referred to as promiscuous? No. Women are a majority that enjoys many advantages in our society on basis of their gender alone:
1. Maternity leave.
2. If a man stays home to raise his kids, or just hang around, he's an object of ridicule and scorn. If a woman does, she's revered.
3. Men almost always pay on dates. (at least I did and all my friends did)
4. There are no lawsuits wherein a man can claim he was discriminated against for being a man, countless vice-versa.
Etc ad infinitum.
This guy referring to a woman as a "slut" is vulgar to be sure, and I'd ground my kid for a week if he did it, but that is NOT a bannable offense IMO.
What I did "figure out on my own", long ago, is that censorship is a slippery slope. When we start banning people from saying things like "slut", and taking Mark Twain and Faulkner out of school libraries because they contain the "N" word, we've taken one step closer to a totalitarian regime I want no part of.
I don't like it that people say ugly things, but I'm smart enough to realize I don't want to be in the role of censor and don't want you there either.
Take cheap shots at me all you like, but I think one of us has backed up there position and the other hasn't.
(hint: "if you don't know, I can't tell you" doesn't cut it for those of us with a brain)
BTW Malak- ever call a guy a "dick"? Should you be banned from speaking in public?
Last edit: If you live in this country (USA) a lot of people died for his right to say unpleasant things and the First Amendment of our highest law guarantees his right to say unpleasant things. You have a VERY high opinion of yourself to spit on their sacrifice, and our country's founding principle. I think this may be what angers me most about all this "PC to the Nth degree" garbage. Our county's highest principle is that we allow all to be heard, and some would throw it away because they don't personally want to listen.
Better outlaw most rock, rap, and a lot of classic literature while you're on your crusade Malak. I'm pretty sure artists and authors aplenty have referred to others in less than glowing terms.
