Someone just paid for an ebay item of mine. I got the Paypal email regarding the payment and it includes fees. What's up with that?

That's what I am guessing.

account types and fees

If you have a Paypal premier/business account you are charged fees for ALL payments even if they are non-cc. Sucks doesn't it?

There is a way around it though. Paypal will allow you to have TWO Paypal accounts, one personal and one premier/business.

Haha. Yeh....free. Paypal is retarded. It used to be free for me. But, idiots on eBay dont understand when you say no credit card payments. If you can somehow make sure you dont get paid by credit card, then you can recieve free payments. Otherwise, yeh, you will get screwed over by the fees, they are really high IMO for casual eBayer's just selling off a few things.

You can set your Paypal preferences to not except CC's. But even then with a personal account I think you limited to a couple of payments a month, any more and you start getting fees.

I have the personal account. It says on their site it's free to accept funds. What the hell? I'm not paying 0.5¢ And I thought you can only accept credit cards with the Premiere account?!

Can you take a screen capture of your Paypal account just the main page top left section which doesn't have your name, email address or account balance.

I think it's a personal account...it says "Upgrade Account" and I think that disappears on premier accounts

IHere's a portion of the Paypal email I received. I haven't accepted the funds until I get this sorted out. Can't the buyer simply transfer money from their paypal account into mine for no fee?

You have an Instant Payment of $10.99 USD from miss_sexy (luv@superman.com).

View the details of this transaction online

To accept this credit card payment, upgrade to a Premier or Business account. A small fee is charged to accept incoming payments. For details, go to ******/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside.

yeah, i'm pretty sure once you send and receive a certain amount of money through paypal, it forces you to become a fee charged member to continue.

Why hasn't a CC company sued paypal over this yet? I was under the impression that charging fees for using CC's was against all CC's rules. How do they get around it?

there are limits, but the average person will not exceed them.

They are passing on the fee that CC are charging them.

You can't charge a fee for using a CC to purchase an item, but you sure can charge a fee for recieving payment with a CC.

eventually they will. i think its a $2000 limit total. once you hit $2000 you need the next step up in membership. its not $2000 a month, its $2000 total.
