I thought installing RAM was supposed to be easy...

At least that's what everyone tells me...

However I've been having some serious trouble installing my two new sticks of Crucial RAM.

The problems lies in the fact my CD and DVD drive are blocking access to the DIMM slots. I can only see half of the slot, and after over two hours of trying to line up the RAM to go in the slot, I've discovered that half isn't enough. I need to take out my two drives in order to install my new RAM.

But that's not easy for me. I've never installed or uninstalled a drive before. I tried unscrewing the screws around the case that holds the drives but I wasn't able to move the drives out. I can't get em out, grrr.

I thought installing RAM was supposed to be easy, boy was I wrong. Maybe I should just pay someone to do this for me.

If you can't get the sticks in without running them into your drives, you probably won't be able to install it. Do you have an exceptionally small case? Do you have open drive bays above the DIMM slots?

To get the drives out you need to undo the screws that hold them in. There are a total of four screw holes on each side, but there are most likely only two installed. You may have to take the right hand side of your case off to remove them.

Yeah my case is very small... its a Hewlett Packard Pavilion 8670C

As for taking off the ride hand side of my case, how can I do that? I noticed my motherboard is back there and I have things on it attached to my case (video card for example). I just take it off like the other side? I don't need to prepare anything first?

If I could get these drives out, the RAM installation would be a breeze. I already figured out how to remove the fan / power thingy so I'd have room the pull the drives out.

I really hate small cases =/

It's probable that your mobo rests on it's own tray and that side of thecase is removable without affecting the mobo.

lol, from when i read your first post i could guess that you had an hp, replacing the ram isnt that hard provided that you find the way to slide the front of the case & drives out (my old comp needed me to remove 2 screws then pull the lever then pretty much the whole front of the case slides out.) refer to the documentation that came with your hp to do this. Its not too hard ;)

PM me if you need more specifics.
