I thought I was a nice brother

Bateluer

Lifer
Bumped her up from a Duron 700 w/ 256 SDR RAM and GF2 MX200 to a P4 1.5Ghz w/ 256 DDR-RAM and a Radeon 9600 Pro. Pretty big jump, considering I already had the proc and vidcard. Took 5 hours getting Win2k reinstalled, mobo divers, 2k Updates, etc. Technically, its still not finished, need an Office suite installed, and her backuped files copied over again. Only thing I got was "Are you finished yet? Are you finished yet? I want to go to bed now, are you finished yet?"

And I'm such a nice guy, already thinking of getting her another 256MB stick of RAM for her birthday next month.

When it comes to computers you should never try to be a good brother, son, friend, anything! It's always more hassle than it's worth.

Anything that goes wrong in the first 18 months will obviously be something that you did.

^^^ words of wisdom...

I bet thats the answere for question #8 on the test to become a "lifer"

I try to limit my goodnatured assistance to telling which Dell to buy

I upgraded my sister's computer from a Pentium II @ 350mhz to an Athlon Thunderbird 1.4ghz, 512ram, GF4 Ti4200. It's my previous computer, I now have an Athlon64 3200+.

Well, everyday, all I hear from her room is shooting noise coming from Counter-Strike. I should never install that game for her!!

Her system still feels kinda sluggish due to its 5400rpm hdd. I'm not getting her another hdd for her birthday though, since I won't be around to install it. A stick of RAM is an easy upgrade that several people around the home can do.

Is p4 s478?

1) A little

2) Yes, its s478. The Epox Via chipset based mobo is single channel DDR though. 🙁 Don't expect a whole lot of performance from a 30 dollars mobo, but it will take a 3.2Ghz P4.

Let me guess - she didn't ASK you to upgrade it, but you figured there was another PC in the house, so you might as well spend all night screwing around with it.
