I thought BestBuy got in trouble for this?

I was at Best Buy yesterday looking to buy a cheap DVD player. There online store had it on special at $35 bucks. Saw that the local store had it and went to check it out.

I didn't see the DVD player on the shelf so i asked a sales girl and she pulled up the Best Buy webpage and it had the regular price on it. The sales girl was like "well it was probably a 1 day sale thing"
I told her that the page she was looking at was the 'local' Best Buy page and not the online version (it said 'Best Buy Local' on the window). Sales girl got little rude and said "well we don't have it in stock anyways"

So I said fine and told her i'll buy it online and pick it up at another store.

I thought Best Buy got sued for this specific issue.

I see they have a new policy to post a sign by the kiosks stating that the pricing there may not be the same as their "Internet" site.

What the previous issue was is that there was no indicator that it was an internal webpage and not an online webpage.Since according to you it was marked Best Buy Local seems like a non issue to me.

It was only located on the top left corner like any browser window. Only a tech savvy person would know to look for that or know what it means.

It was not like in big bold letter or warning saying this is our local website and prices might be different.

They got around it by having a disclaimer basically saying "We're trying to rob you blind with this."

As long as it is shown that its a local site then there is nothing you can do. Its still pretty darn crooked business ethics but not illegal.

I just wont purchase a darn thing from BB anymore. I don't like to do business with known crooks.

Hmm when I bought my HDTV from them it was 200 more than their website. When I told the associate this his response was, "No problem we match our website's prices" and he looked it up right on the spot and took off the difference.

I was prepaired to walk outside and use my laptop to order for pick up in store if he said otherwise. :D

Yup, that was their solution. Such a cheap cop out.

So they put a little disclaimer on it, but they are still using it the exact same way that got them in trouble. No respect for the law there.

Funny I told her if they can match their website prices. She look dumbfounded like "huh?". I even said, well can you match Circuit City's price because it was the same special price. She was like 'yes, was it on their paper ad" i said no but online. "oh we don't do that she said, it has to be on the paper ad".

I just read the article on Engadget about the Kiosk sign about this. I put this thread up before i even read that cop out.

Just order it online and choose in store pickup. It's not worth dealing with their bullshit if you don't have to.

I'm positive there is some collusion among the major resellers that goes something this:

BB= best buy CC= Circuit City

CC: We're going to have a good sale soon

BB: Ok, well keep your best sales only on your email marketing so we dont have to match it

CC: Why would we do that?

BB: B/C this way, both of us can offer crappy sale prices whenever we want, but when we actually have good sales, we dont have to worry about eachother having to honor it. We both make more $$ that way and the customer will probably not like it, but f--k them, we're juggernauts b**ch.

Yea, i know its a lot more complicated than that, but price matching guarantees have so many clauses nowadays that theyre almost worthless.

Buying something at Best Buy? You fail.
