i thought AS5 was supposed to get better not worse!

install my new TT Silent Boost HSF with AS5; on first boot up the idle temps were 34-36C [dropped from 48C!] but by the next day they had upped to 36-38C [same ambient/case temps] and now they have upped to 40C...

the same happened when i swapped out my stock hsf for the FRII - they initially were 38-40C...then crpet up withtin a day or so to 40-42C..then settled at 44C for ages before rising and plateauing at 48C.

what is going on!!????
 
If the AS5 has been setting on the shelf for some time before you got it and/or at your location, the silver particles can settle out. Gently pull out the plunger and stir the stuff up (gently so as not to aeriate it) with a VERY clean tool - plastic best. It'll be fun putting the plunger back in w/o getting AS all over...

Ya on their website it says that you should always have the tube with the nozzel facing down so that if any settling occurs the best mixture will be at the bottom. I have this little pottery type deal that I put my 12g tube in and it works wonderfully and I always feel confident that I am using the best mixture of AS5.
 
Did you apply it correctly?

Make sure you read their site www.arcticsilver.com for detailed instructions. The arctic silver is only supposed to fill in those microscopic valleys and ridges where the metal to metal contact cannot reach!

Very true. If the AS5 was runny at all, you may do well to reapply 'cause the polymers may have migrated out from between your HSF and CPU. Although Zepper's method of mixing sounds like great fun, I normally just squeeze out a BB-sized ball of AS5 and discard it. Behind this initial waste is goo much more true to AS5 consistancy - almost pasty.
 
yeah, i did notice the first bob that came out was a little runnier than i remembered so i discarded it; next blob was the correct consistency but it was applied to my satisfaction so that got the isopropyly treatment too!
i have problems not getting it everywhere whle trying to be careful - zepper's method is just asking for trouble!

you know, despite what mbm says i guess it must be an ambient temp thing as it is 37C today:roll:

mind you it is also sloshing back and forth from 37-40 like a stricken ship in a storm!
 
I've had about 3 cpu swaps in the last month all with AS5. I think it's kind of normal. I too noticed higher temps a few days after installing the HSF only to have them get a lot better within a week. (I don't cold boot often, so no thermal cycling for the paste)

Just ride it out for a few weeks. Honestly mine dropped a few degrees after it settled.
 
I put it on my setup and the temps went up also. I got a good deal on some as3 and havent looked back sincel. 🙂
