I thought 2005 was the year that all TV sets were no longer using OTA signals?

I remember when I worked at best buy (circa ~1999), the big push was for TV's with built in HD, and I swear they said by 2005, normal OTA signals were going to be dead.

um, HDTV is just as much "over the air" as standard definition analog TV has always been.

"OTA signals will no longer be able to be handled by a regular TV set. It either requires an HD-TV or an HD converter box. Regardless, without either of those two, all TV's will be paperweights".

Its been pushed back and back. The FCC says legislation is pending to make the deadline Feb 2009.

The house voted Dec 2008, Senate Apr 2009. It is being worked out in negotiations. Then it'll have to be signed into law.

I think you're confusing analog OTA and digital signal OTA.

The push is for going from analog to digital. Has nothing to do with HDTV or OTA.
