I think when a criminal sees someone wearing large headphones he thinks "This person is minding his own business".

It also gives you the excuse to "not reply" if talked to, like if a criminal tries to talk to you and you're "NOT" wearing headphones the criminal would be like "WHY ARE YOU IGNORING ME!? I KNOW YOU HEARD ME! 😡

But if you're wearing large headphones the criminal would be like "he probably can't hear me".

I've always wore large headphones in public since being a teenager and I've never really gotten into serious trouble on the street.

Never wore large headphones (over the ear) outside. They're made more for sitting down. When I'm outside, I use ear buds or iems.

I see people with stuff in/on their ears, and I think they're fools. My ears are always on listening to what's going on around me. I use my ears almost as much as my eyes. If I were out to do crime, I'd be hunting the headphone wearers.

What kind of criminals are you talking about exactly? Wouldn't you want to appear more threatening, so as to be a less appealing target?

What I meant by "non-threatening" is someone who:
see no evil.
hear no evil.
speak no evil.

If you're wearing headphones it seems like you're not "hearing any evil", which a criminal would see as less threatening.

I'm not saying I support crime, im saying a criminal would see you as non-threatening if you hear no evil.

Like I said before, if you're wearing headphones people would see you as someone who is minding their own business.

You woke up a memory. There was a guy on a particular part of road I was sometimes on, and would stop at the Wawa. He lived nearby, and was always riding his bike from wherever he lived to the Wawa. The whole time riding his bike, he'd make motorcycle noises. Needless to say, he wasn't all there in the head. It's been 20-30 years since I saw him. I wonder what happened to the guy?

Coincidentally(maybe not?), that was near where I found my first confirmed illiterate person. There was sawmill <1mi from that Wawa, and we bought our stakes from them. One time I was picking up stakes, and I handed a guy a my order list. It looked like he was having trouble parsing what it said before someone else walked up and snatched it from him a few seconds later. It then dawned on me that he couldn't read. First time I ever met someone fully illiterate. Maybe the water out there's bad...

It's wild how the brain works. I often get those recall moments. Most the time I have to piece together the memory which takes time.

The sense of smell is strongly tied to our memory. Once I get a whiff of something familiar I will search my brain until I figure it out. I once tied a recent smell to a x-mas decoration my parents would put out every year back in the 70's and 80's. I saw a Strawberry Shortcake toy doll yesterday and I could remember exactly what is smelled like 30+ years ago.

Headphones are great in big cities. Put them in and no one will bother you on transit or walking down the street.
