I think when a criminal sees someone wearing large headphones he thinks "This person is minding his own business".
It also gives you the excuse to "not reply" if talked to, like if a criminal tries to talk to you and you're "NOT" wearing headphones the criminal would be like "WHY ARE YOU IGNORING ME!? I KNOW YOU HEARD ME! 😡
But if you're wearing large headphones the criminal would be like "he probably can't hear me".
I've always wore large headphones in public since being a teenager and I've never really gotten into serious trouble on the street.
