I think we should ban writing checks in stores

I think why many people still write checks is because most check books (that I have seen) have a carbon copy of the check underneath. This way you have record of all your purchases. It is much easier to go back and look through old check books then look through old receipts.

It has become to easy to swipe your cards and get things. There are times where I look at my transactions, and I have to think for a minute excatly what was that purchase for, when if I was writing a check, all I have to do is flip through the carbon copies and find my notes on that check. I know everyone here he excellent at managing money and practically has no debt, but I would contribute most of Americans debt, to the ease of buying things and the lack of records that come with that purchase.

A lot of you guys are lucky you don't get behind me at a grocery store. If I can sense that someone is in a hurry, I will purposely enter the wrong debit code for my card just to take up more time and piss people off. I get much enjoyment out of seeing people sigh and become visibly upset. Call me what you will, but it is fun.

On another note; it seems like your Safeway is back in "1990". Alot of the grocery stores around here will take your check, slip it through their machine, and pre-fill the check for you. All that is required is for you to sign it.

All those people who go into the stores buying groceries... It takes them like an hour to check out and I have to wait in line behind them... why do these selfish bastards even have to come to my grocery store? They should just stay home so that when I come to buy a cold bottle of coke and a pack of gum so that I can be the first and only one in line. Come on... these people dont actually need to buy any groceries or anything... or surely that could do it either at least 2 hours before or after i enter the store or even on a different day...

If this whole thing was really about speed, the checkhaters would carry enough cash and change so they could instantly produce exact change for their purchase, which is certainly faster than using a credit card or debit card with the whole production of swiping, punching in PIN numbers, waiting for a receipt to print, signing it, etc. etc.

If that sounds exaggerated to you, then realize you're using the same argument to claim that writing a check takes meaningfully longer than using a CC or debit card. It does not. So if you prefer using a CC or debit card to cash because you find it more convenient than cash, you should also understand the same rationale is justified for those using a check. Because cash is faster than either one.

You want to keep track of your purchases, and you need a freakin carbon to do it? Com'on, get some organizational skills. I'm in China now and I think that they don't even know the meaning of the word check/cheque whatever. Its all cash baby, cash all the time. It was interesting paying my rent with 110 bills (100 yuan/$12.50) is the biggest bill that they have; at a business lunch today the supplier paid with ~20 100's.

Course, if you get jacked, you are screwed..

Most debit transactions that are small, I don't even wait around for the receipt. I don't need it. Swipe, pin, go.

It isn't all about speed though, it's about being so selfish as to waste everyone's time beyond yours. Waste your time, it's yours to waste. Just don't force the 10 people behind you to waste it too.

If you want to ban something at grocery stores ban people who go into the express lane with a cartful of stuff. It completely destroys the point of the express lane if people who are well over the limit are allowed to use the lane.

They should make the registers stop after the amount of items the sign says you can have. If you still have items you have to go to the back of the lane and try again, or you can choose to do your remaining items in a lane that is intended for people who have that many items.

Crazy talk. Most people DO need them. The modern world revolves around your credit score. Not having a credit card as soon as you can is really irresponsible IMO, unless you live out in a cave somewhere.
