I've had no luck with finding my second car. The other one I got beat by another buyer. I think I finally found my second vehicle - Toyota Sienna 2004. It's an AWD XLE model. It's got about 140k miles. The car drives good with two major dents and some minor scratches. The seller is asking for $8000.

I did encounter something on Carfax. The report states "Accident reported with another motor vehicle involving right rear impact" in 2006. I don't really know what that means, but I'm assuming it got hit in the rear, which probably explains this dent:

Despite the accident, Carfax report states that the car is worth $630 over its retail value. The damage report is from Missouri.

In any case, would I be able to use one of those suction devices to pop it out?

Also, it's got an aftermarket tow hitch. It's a bit rusty as the pictures shows. Is there a way to take care of the rust as well as on the car body itself?

My plan is to spray paint both of these... if I can get the rust out.

It might work, the suction devide.

You will have to remove that black trim to fully get at the rust issue.

i'd see if i could take out the plastic trim panels on the inside and punch the dent out

for the rust i'd just sand it down to metal, spray on something that looks close, spray a little clear coat. or put on a bumper sticker lol.

I'm quite surprised such a small dent found its way to Carfax...unless there was another accident prior (more likely IMHO).

And you'd be making an incorrect assumption. The way Carfax reports accidents is a bit obtuse, but in common speak, the Sienna you're looking at hit another vehicle in the right rear, meaning this van hit with the front end.

Look for signs of front end repair under the hood. Then again, it may not have been much of an accident in the first place, at least damage-wise to the van, as no air bag deployment was reported, and Carfax usually picks up on that.

Yeah, could easily have been a little bump, nothing serious.

For the rust, yeah, sand down to bare metal, prime, paint, clear, etc. If you don't care about perfection, you can do it. Just make sure you use the right kind of primer and paint or the stuff will peel, bubble or otherwise invite more rust to grow underneath.

Thanks! I have not sanded down any vehicle body, yet. But there's a first time for everything. I've refurbished wooden floors in the past. Would it be the same technique? Start with a coarse grit and slowly progress to a fine grit?
