I think that my monitor may be dead. . .

Firstly, I should mention that I have a generic off-brand monitor.

Earlier today, my monitor was working just fine. After I got home from work, it wasn't working at all.

The display does nothing; it simply remains black while the power LED flashes continually. No images onscreen, just the flashing LED; and it remains the standard green color--the power LED usually turns orange when it isn't connected to anything. It just flashes green now though, whether or not it's connected to anything. I tried it on a different computer and got the exact same results. I tried my backup monitor (which I'm using at this very moment), and the backup works fine on both computers.

The problem is that the backup monitor is a terrible little fifteen incher, so I miss my other one already.

So, is my monitor dead? Should I just go buy a new one? Is there anything that can be done?

Any responses would be appreciated.

If its dead I strongly suggest the refurbished HP P930 for $150 shipped at the Hot Deals forums. Incredible monitor for a cheap price, does 1600x1200@ 85 hz.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep it in mind, but I really hate to drop the cash on a new monitor. I shall only do that if my monitor is not somehow miraculously working again by Monday.

Also, what do you guys think about monitors made by a company called Mag? My local Best Buy has a seventeen inch Mag flatscreen CRT for $80, which, to me, seems like a good price.

If my monitor is indeed dead, what monitor would you suggest for about $100?

Aside from schoolwork and browsing the web, I use it for gaming mostly. I like Flatscreen CRTs better than LCDs anyway. If my monitor is indeed dead, I will get a flatscreen CRT, rest assured.

I've got a 17" MAG LCD.. no dead pixels, and it works and looks great, IMO

that happened to my AST 15" CRT about 4 years ago ... took it to a small repair shop, turned out it was a small component (a transistor, if I remember corectly). The guy charged me all of $20 to get it working, but then that was 4-5 years ago and it was in a small town in India...

If I was you, i'd put down $80 for a new flatscreen
