Hey I live in a 18 story building. I have wireless net. Netgear router and network card, lately I've noticed slow upload/download speeds and also slow surfing speeds. I have reason to believe someone is eating my bandwidth in another apartment. Is there any way to find out? How do I setup my connect so only I can use it?

Thanks

Look in the DHCP lease table. It might be able to tell you.

Things you should have setup on your router:
WEP/WPA -If you have to use WEP, change it frequently.
MAC restrictions -Only allow what should be there.
Don't broadcast SSID -Don't yell and scream when you should be whispering.

Use a long, random WPA key; WPA2 if available! Also, enter a strong password for your router when you are wired, and make sure you are using ssl connection to router if wireless. Hell, you should use ssl when wired, too. That should definitely do the job.

Thanks for the replies guys, I put up a WEP password. I can't seem to get my network working without SSID but at least I changed it from a default name to a unique name. That guide said as long as I change the WEP password once a week or so I should be alright.

1. WEP/WPA encryption, preferably WPA because it is more secure
2. MAC Address Filtering to only allow your computers access
3. Turn off SSID broadcasting. Out of sight, out of mind

But my internet does not work if I turn off SSID broadcasting...I have no clue how to set it up so it still accesses the router.
